Richard Madeley Teases First Project With Judy Finnigan in Five Years — Nearly Four Decades After Their TV Debut

After nearly five years away from working together on-screen, Richard Madeley, 70, has revealed that he and wife Judy Finnigan, 78, are planning a new project together — sparking excitement among fans of the iconic presenting duo.

Richard Madeley has revealed his plans to work with wife Judy Finnigan on a new project for the first time in five years - and nearly four decades after their on-screen debutRichard appeared on Vanessa Feltz’s Channel 5 show this week and confirmed that the couple are considering launching a podcast, nearly 17 years after their last major series together.

“We’ve had a conversation with a very good producer friend of ours, an ex-editor of This Morning, Nick, and we’ve kicked a few ideas around. It’s in the air, it’s a possibility,” Richard said, hinting at a potential return in a fresh format.

Richard, 70, who has been married to Judy, 78, since 1986 - first rose to fame alongside his wife as the hosts of ITV's This Morning in the 1980s and 1990sNo Return to TV for Judy

While fans may dream of seeing the duo back on television, Richard clarified that Judy has no interest in returning to the traditional screen:

“Judy was a very reluctant TV star. She liked the job but not the fripperies of being a celebrity on camera… Would we like to do something again as a husband-and-wife presenting team? We’ve finished that picture. It’s on the wall. She doesn’t want to.”

Judy’s TV break followed a public backlash in 2014 after controversial remarks she made about footballer Ched Evans during a Loose Women discussion. The comments prompted outrage and online trolling targeting both Judy and their daughter, Chloe Madeley. Richard stepped in, warning that threats of rape against Chloe would face prosecution.

“I noted every threat. Anyone making those is in deep trouble,” he said.

A Love Story Nearly 40 Years in the Making

Reflecting on their enduring marriage, Richard shared the story of how they first met at Granada Television, revealing the slow-burn romance that would last nearly four decades.

“We didn’t fall in love straight away… After about 14 months, we were sent to Blackpool for promotions. We had dinner together, and suddenly there was a moment where we both thought, ‘This isn’t how it was 10 minutes ago.’ Things transpired in the taxi back to Manchester… and we decided we wanted to be together. Here we are.”

Nearly 17 years after their last major TV series together, Richard explained that the couple were planning to launch a new podcastRichard and Judy married in 1986, blending their families and later welcoming two children together, Jack and Chloe Madeley, cementing a professional and personal partnership that has become a British television institution.

While Judy continues to step back from the limelight, Richard remains active on shows like Good Morning Britain, but fans now have the tantalising prospect of seeing the couple reunite — albeit in a podcast format rather than traditional TV.

“It’s exciting to think that after all these years, we might find a new way to work together,” Richard concluded.
