Singer Jesy Nelson has shared another emotional glimpse into her reality as a mum, praising her twin daughters as “the strongest little girls I’ve ever known” following their latest hospital visit amid their devastating health battle.
The former Little Mix star, 34, has been documenting her journey since revealing earlier this year that her nine-month-old twins, Ocean and Story, were diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA Type 1) — a rare and severe genetic condition that causes progressive muscle weakness.
🏥 A SNAP THAT SAYS EVERYTHING
Taking to Instagram Stories, Jesy posted a deeply moving image of her daughters lying side-by-side in a hospital bed.
The babies, dressed in adorable outfits but fitted with feeding tubes, were awaiting medical examination — a scene that has now become part of their daily reality.
Alongside the image, Jesy wrote simply:
“The strongest little girls I’ve ever known.”
It’s a short caption — but one that carries the weight of everything she and her daughters are going through.
💔 A DEVASTATING DIAGNOSIS
Jesy first revealed the heartbreaking news in January, explaining that her twins had been diagnosed with SMA Type 1 — the most severe form of the condition.
SMA affects the motor neurons in the body, leading to muscle deterioration over time. Without early treatment, it can impact essential functions like:
- Breathing
- Swallowing
- Movement
In the most serious cases, children may not live beyond the age of two.
Jesy has spoken candidly about the moment she realised the severity of the condition — and the terrifying reality that followed.
😢 “IT’S AN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER”
Since the diagnosis, Jesy has not held back in sharing the truth behind life caring for her daughters.
She previously described the experience as:
“So full-on… I’ll never be able to explain how intense it is.”
Daily medical procedures — including treatments and feeding support — have been especially difficult, with Jesy admitting it can feel like she’s hurting her babies as they cry during care.
Some days, she says, are simply:
“Really fing s.”
Others bring moments of light — but the uncertainty never disappears.
👶 LOVE, FEAR — AND A FIGHT FOR TIME
The emotional weight of the diagnosis is amplified by the fact that Jesy is navigating new motherhood at the same time.
Her daughters are still babies — yet already facing a life-threatening condition.
Jesy has spoken openly about the hardest part: accepting what doctors have told her, while still holding onto hope.
“It’s not okay, but it is what it is… I just have to accept it and try to make the best out of this situation.”
But she also firmly believes:
“My girls are the strongest, most resilient babies… I really believe they are going to defy all the odds.”
📢 TURNING PAIN INTO PURPOSE
Rather than suffering in silence, Jesy has turned her heartbreak into campaigning for change.
She has been pushing for the NHS to introduce newborn screening for SMA, after her daughters missed early diagnosis because the test wasn’t available at birth.
And there has finally been progress.
From October 2026, around 400,000 babies in England are expected to be screened for SMA — a major milestone for the community.
Jesy called it:
“A real proud moment.”
⚠️ BUT THERE’S A CATCH
Despite the breakthrough, Jesy has warned the rollout isn’t equal.
Only certain areas of England will initially carry out the screening — meaning some babies could still miss early diagnosis depending on where they are born.
She didn’t hold back:
“It’s essentially a postcode lottery for your baby… which shouldn’t be the case.”
Her message is clear — this fight isn’t over.
📝 A CAMPAIGN GAINING POWER
Jesy’s efforts have already made a huge impact.
- A petition she supported reached 100,000 signatures
- It is now set to be debated in Parliament
- Awareness of SMA has surged across the UK
She credited fans for helping push the issue forward:
“That is all down to you guys… I’m so appreciative of all the support.”
🎥 KEEPING THE CAMERAS ROLLING
In an incredibly brave decision, Jesy has continued filming her Prime Video documentary series, even after her daughters’ diagnosis.
She explained:
“There’s a reason you guys are here… we’ve got to make the best out of this situation.”
The series is expected to give a raw, unfiltered look at her journey — from diagnosis to daily life, and her fight for change.
❤️ FINDING STRENGTH IN THE DARKEST MOMENTS
Despite everything, Jesy continues to show remarkable strength.
Between hospital visits, sleepless nights, and emotional strain, she remains focused on:
- Caring for her daughters
- Raising awareness
- Fighting for better healthcare access
- And cherishing every moment with Ocean and Story
That single photo from the hospital — two tiny babies side by side — captures it all.
Not just illness. Not just fear.
But resilience, love, and a mother refusing to give up.
