Hope Street Star Finnian Garbutt, 28, Dies After Brave Battle with Terminal Cancer

Finnian Garbutt, the 28-year-old star of BBC’s Hope Street, has tragically passed away just a month after revealing his terminal cancer diagnosis. The young actor, best known for his role as Constable Ryan Power in the hit Northern Irish police drama, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, following a courageous five-year battle with melanoma.

In a heart-wrenching Instagram post earlier this year, Finnian shared the devastating news that his cancer had worsened and become terminal. Despite undergoing treatment and surgery, his battle against the aggressive skin cancer ultimately came to a close. His family confirmed the news, expressing their heartfelt gratitude for the immense support Finnian received during his final days.

“Finn passed peacefully at home, as he wished,” his family said in a tribute. “We are so thankful for all the love and support we’ve received. It gave him peace of mind during his final moments.”

Finnian’s tragic passing has left his loved ones heartbroken, especially his wife and daughter, Saoirse, born just weeks after his stage IV diagnosis. In his final months, Finnian reflected on the many milestones he had achieved despite his illness, including starring in 30 episodes of Hope Street, becoming a father, and making his film debut.

In February, Finnian announced that despite treatment, the cancer has worsened and has now become terminal, five years after he was initially diagnosed

“I’ve achieved so many of my life goals, even with this disease,” Finnian wrote in a moving post in February. “I never imagined I’d be a father, but my daughter, Saoirse, brings me joy every day.”

Finnian’s legacy extends beyond his acting career—he became a passionate advocate for melanoma awareness, using his platform to encourage others to get their skin checked. His openness about his condition touched the hearts of many, and his courage will inspire others to fight, just as he did.

Finnian’s family ended their tribute with an emotional farewell: “We will always love and miss you, Finn. You were the greatest husband, father, son, brother, and friend we could ever ask for. Knowing you’re no longer in pain gives us comfort, despite the immense pain we feel from losing you.”

Details of Finnian’s funeral will be shared soon, with the family asking for privacy during this time of sorrow.
