Georgia Toffolo has bravely opened up about the emotional and physical challenges she’s faced while trying to conceive, revealing that the stress surrounding her husband James Watt’s BrewDog company collapse has added to the difficulty. In a raw Instagram post, the Made in Chelsea star shared the emotional rollercoaster of their five-month journey to get pregnant, describing it as “lonely and crazy” as she battles feelings of frustration.
“I’ve been really hiding that my husband and I have been trying for a baby,” Toff revealed, admitting that despite trying for several months, it still hasn’t happened. She expressed the disappointment of facing months of negative pregnancy tests but reassured her followers that she had consulted with doctors who reminded her that such delays are normal.
The year has been particularly tough for Georgia and her husband James, the co-founder of BrewDog. The beer brand, which had a meteoric rise, faced a major collapse this year after accumulating over £500 million in debt. Amid the company’s scandalous downfall, questions arose about BrewDog’s toxic culture, which added another layer of stress for the couple.
Reflecting on the difficult year, Georgia shared, “We’ve had so much stress. Public stuff like the BrewDog situation has been really difficult to navigate.” The timing of trying for a baby alongside the collapse of BrewDog made everything more emotionally taxing. “We are both very tough and very strong, but it’s been a tricky year,” she said, opening up about her naivety, believing that being healthy and fit would make conceiving a baby easy.
Georgia and James, who married in March 2024, have had their emotional ups and downs as they navigate the complex journey of starting a family. “Sometimes there’s just a lot of stuff going on biologically, and all of it has coincided… it’s been a lot for us,” she admitted. Despite the challenges, Georgia found solace in sharing the journey with James, noting how the experience of taking pregnancy tests together has brought them closer. “I can actually cry with relief,” she said.
The couple’s year of turmoil was further amplified by the public backlash James faced after BrewDog’s collapse, including criticism from the brand’s new owner, Irwin Simon. James has since been excluded from the company, and the closure of 38 BrewDog bars and the firing of hundreds of employees marked the sad end of an era.
While Georgia emphasized that they are not facing infertility, she described being in that “weird in-between stage,” where conception hasn’t yet happened but hope remains. “I would love to hear from people who had a similar journey to us and ended up with this perfect little gift at the end,” she concluded, sharing her positive outlook for the future.
Her honesty and vulnerability have resonated deeply with fans, many of whom flooded her post with messages of support and encouragement. Georgia’s openness has sparked a broader conversation about the emotional struggles often faced during the process of trying to conceive.
