The pair said the day felt deeply special, especially after recently retiring from performing together following their emotional farewell tour.

Sir Christopher joked that he told the King they had retired — and even “recommended it” to him, prompting a laugh from Charles.Torvill and dean

Dame Jayne said the King made them feel comfortable and asked whether they were still skating or coaching. She explained that their final tour had been their last, admitting their bodies had helped make the decision.

The honours mark another proud chapter in the pair’s remarkable story, more than four decades after their gold medal triumph made them national treasures.

Their legacy remains especially strong in Nottingham, where Bolero Square and the Torvill and Dean Rink at the National Ice Centre continue to celebrate their achievements.

Also honoured at the ceremony were stars including Sir Idris Elba and Dame Meera Syal, alongside several members of the public recognised for extraordinary service.
