Emily Atack Opens Up About Challenging Teenage Years and Early Pregnancy
Emily Atack, star of Rivals and The Inbetweeners, has shared candid insights into the difficulties she faced during her teenage years, revealing that she became pregnant at the age of 16 and experienced a traumatic relationship during that period.

Speaking on the How To Fail With Elizabeth Day podcast, the 36-year-old actress described her adolescence as a challenging time shaped by her parents’ separation and personal struggles. “I was just very young and very lost,” Atack explained. “I was in this awful, abusive relationship, and I fell pregnant. It was a really, really messy time.”

In addition to her early pregnancy, Atack disclosed that she endured a traumatic sexual assault at the age of 10, an experience she had kept private from her family for many years. “I think the loneliness largely comes from that, and many things happened that, even to this day, my parents don’t know the details of how men treated me,” she said.

The actress also highlighted inappropriate behaviour from male co-stars during her early acting career, including unwanted touching, whispered comments, and messages outside work hours. She noted that many young women in the entertainment industry face similar pressures and challenges.

Despite these early hardships, Emily has built a successful career in television, theatre, and film. She is now a mother to 24-month-old son Barney with her fiancé Alistair Garner. Reflecting on her journey, she emphasized the importance of sharing her story: “Talking about this stuff isn’t easy, but it’s helped me understand myself better and hopefully normalise the idea that you don’t have to hide from your past.”

Emily Atack’s openness provides valuable insight into the personal struggles behind her public persona, highlighting resilience, growth, and the capacity to overcome trauma while maintaining a thriving career and family life.
