Jesy Nelson Shares Heartwarming Moments with Her Twin Daughters Amid SMA1 Health Battle
Jesy Nelson, the 34-year-old Little Mix star, recently shared a touching glimpse into her life with twin daughters Ocean Jade and Story Monroe. Despite the heart-wrenching challenges they face, including a diagnosis of Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1), Jesy continues to share moments of joy with her followers.
Ocean and Story, who were born prematurely in May 2025, have been battling SMA1—a devastating condition that weakens muscles by affecting motor nerve cells in the spinal cord. SMA1 is the most severe form of this condition, with a grim prognosis: without medical intervention, most babies don’t survive beyond their second birthday.
In a candid moment, Jesy opened up about the emotional toll of her daughters’ diagnosis in her documentary Life After Little Mix. She often shares updates on their health journey on Instagram, where she posted a heartwarming series of photos showing the twins enjoying a sweet day out.
In one adorable clip, Jesy lovingly admires her daughters in matching outfits, calling them “little princesses” and “fairy little princesses.” She also shared a snapshot of her beloved pets lounging in the car, a serene moment amidst the whirlwind of her daily life.
Beyond sharing precious family moments, Jesy has been a fierce advocate for newborn SMA1 testing in the UK. Since her daughters’ diagnosis, she has campaigned tirelessly for the NHS to introduce SMA1 screening for newborns. She has been vocal about the heartbreaking reality of her daughters’ condition, which wasn’t detected at birth due to the lack of testing.
The good news is that the NHS has made strides in SMA1 screening. In a major breakthrough, it was announced that starting in October 2026, over 400,000 babies in England will be tested for the condition. Jesy, while thrilled by the development, expressed concern that the screening would only be available in certain parts of the country, creating a “postcode lottery” for babies’ health. She remains committed to advocating for nationwide testing.
Jesy also took a moment to express her gratitude to her supporters, thanking them for helping her campaign gather 100,000 signatures—an achievement that will soon be debated in Parliament. “This is all thanks to you, and I’m so grateful for all the support and love,” Jesy shared, emphasizing the importance of continuing the fight.
Though the path ahead remains challenging, Jesy is determined to make the most of her time with her daughters. She continues to document their journey, finding strength in her daughters’ resilience and her commitment to making a difference. “I really believe they are going to defy all the odds,” she shared, filled with hope and unwavering love.
