A crime drama series branded ‘hands down the best TV show EVER’ has rocketed up the Netflix charts – as impressed viewers praise the ‘terrific acting.’
The popular show originally aired from 2008 to 2015, keeping fans captivated for seven seasons.
Created by Bruno Heller, The Mentalist follows Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) and his pursuit for revenge.
A fraudulent former psychic medium, Patrick works as a consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
He is also in pursuit of a serial killer known as Red John, who murdered Patrick’s wife and young daughter.
The cast also includes Robin Tunney, Tim Kang, Owain Yeoman and Amanda Righetti as CBI agents.

Australian actor Simon received an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Patrick on The Mentalist.
Since being added to Netflix, the series has gone to reach the streamer’s top 10 as more people discover it.
Writing online, one said: ‘I don’t normally write reviews but I have to for this gem.
‘First of all if you’re in dilemma of deciding whether should watch it or not then put your doubts aside and give it a go, you will not regret it.
‘This is one of the best shows I have ever seen.’
Another added: ‘Brilliant series about crime and investigation involving the homicides, the serial killing that the CBI handles, and of course The Mentalist way of catching the killer every time which is very unique in all the episodes.

Elsewhere, a police drama that fans have compared to popular hits including Breaking Bad and The Sopranos has rocketed up the Netflix charts.
Fans hailed the series ‘one of the best cop shows ever made’ before it was uploaded to the streaming giant this month, over a decade after it was last on screen.
Southland, which originally hit screens between 2009 and 2013, followed the lives of police officers working for the Los Angeles Police Department.
Created by the Emmy Award-winning writer Ann Biderman, it starred Michael Cudlitz as John Cooper, Ben McKenzie as Ben Sherman and Regina King as Lydia Adams.
An official show synopsis teases: ‘Veteran Los Angeles cop John Cooper is assigned to train rookie Ben Sherman, who finds himself questioning whether he has the right stuff to be a police officer after witnessing Cooper’s no-nonsense approach.’
It was such a hit among fans that the final series of the show even secured a strong 100 per cent perfect rating on reviews site Rotten Tomatoes.
Fans were left devastated by its cancellation more than a decade ago, taking to the site to praise the ‘staggeringly good’ series.
On its return, being uploaded to streaming site Netflix, it has quickly climbed up the top ten charts – with viewers binging all five of the available seasons.
Heaping praise on the series, one viewer wrote on IMDb: ‘Ridiculously underrated. Southland is absolutely one of the best cop dramas to ever be made!’
‘The cast is excellent and make it a very believable show. It really is one of the more underrated shows in television history,’ another chimed in.
Another said: ‘Southland is one of the best and most underrated police series to ever be put on television!
