Beverley Callard Opens Up About Her Cancer Battle: ‘I’m in Denial’ Over Diagnosis
Beverley Callard, beloved star of I’m A Celebrity, has revealed that she’s struggling to come to terms with her breast cancer diagnosis as she awaits test results to determine if the cancer has spread.
At 68, Beverley shocked her fans earlier this year by sharing that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Now, in an emotional update, she admitted that she is still in “denial” about her condition, often questioning whether the doctors “got it wrong.”
In an Instagram clip shared on Monday, Beverley said, “Today has been a weird day, the last few days have been really weird. I just thought I’d talk about it in case someone else is feeling the same.” Reflecting on her birthday celebrations earlier in the week, Beverley shared how she had a quiet day on Saturday but was “wiped out” the following days, including when she had to register with a new GP.
“It made me realise that I’m in denial a lot of the time,” she admitted. “If I’m at work, I’ve got lines in my head, scripts, and I’m really busy, but then suddenly, I’m not. And explaining everything to the GP made me realise I’m not concentrating on it, which maybe is a good thing. But sometimes I think, even though they’ve operated on me, maybe they’re wrong and I didn’t have it.”
Beverley, who is still waiting for the results, said her feelings fluctuate, and she wonders if others experience the same thing: “Does that happen to you? Or is it just me being a crazy woman? I don’t know.”
Her candid post received an outpouring of support from fans. One follower wrote, “I think it’s your brain’s way of protecting you from being too overwhelmed with worry rather than denial. Take good care,” while another commented, “You’re not alone Bev… be kind to yourself.”
In addition to her ongoing cancer battle, Beverley has returned to work to promote I’m A Celebrity… South Africa, a show she filmed last year. She also continues her role on the Irish soap Fair City, where she is enjoying a creative renaissance, finding joy in her character and the positive reception from the Dublin community.
Despite the challenges, Beverley remains strong, expressing her commitment to keep fighting. At a recent event, she boldly declared, “F*** cancer,” showing her resilience and determination to continue working and living life to the fullest.
Beverley’s fans and colleagues continue to support her as she navigates this difficult time, and the actress remains an inspiration for many battling their own health struggles.
