ArrDee Opens Up About His Battle With Addiction, Nearly Fatal Ketamine Overdose, and Fatherhood

Rapper ArrDee, 23, known for his witty wordplay and breakout hit Oliver Twist, has revealed the hidden struggles behind his rapid rise to fame. In a candid interview on the We Need To Talk podcast, Riley Jason Davies, professionally known as ArrDee, discussed his battles with drug and alcohol addiction that began at the age of 12.

The Brighton-born artist admitted he squandered the first £300,000 of his earnings on partying and substance abuse. “From January to near April, I stayed sober, and that was the longest I’ve been clean since I was twelve,” ArrDee told host Paul Brunson, reflecting on his journey toward stability.

He detailed harrowing experiences on music video shoots, including a near-fatal ketamine binge lasting three days, and excessive use of alcohol and nitrous oxide. “During the video for Oliver Twist, I was so out of control. You can even see it in my eyes,” he admitted, describing nights of partying, hotel room destruction, and impulsive spending.

ArrDee’s struggles were compounded by his family circumstances. His older brother’s battles with mental health and substance use left a lasting impression, shaping ArrDee’s early coping mechanisms. He recalled feeling neglected at times, playing outdoors while his brother received greater attention, and using substances as an escape from unresolved emotions.

Despite these challenges, ArrDee has found grounding through his partner, Ocean Hanley, with whom he recently welcomed their first child in April. He credits her support with helping him heal and gain a renewed perspective on life. “She radiates a special kind of energy. I feel healed because of her,” he said, adding that this new chapter has inspired him to embrace responsibility and focus on family.
