Amy Hart, the former Love Island star, has finally revealed the name of her newborn son, confirming that the little one is called Dexter after what she described as a “stressful” two weeks of deciding on the perfect name. The 33-year-old and her husband, Sam Rason, 39, already share a three-year-old son, Stanley. On March 7, Amy shared the news that she had given birth to a second boy.
Taking to Instagram, Amy posted an adorable clip of Stanley cradling his younger brother Dexter, who was wearing a baby grow with his name on it. She humorously captioned the post: “Dexter Rason✨ (or as he has been called in the last 2 days, Dex, Dexy, Dexington, Deck Star, Dexy Boy or the baby… still, hard to shake after 2 weeks).”
Amy went on to explain how the decision-making process was much more difficult than expected: “Well, that was stressful. Got our long list down to a final two, mum added in a third, Stanley chose the other name, and then told everyone at David Lloyd that he was called Dexter. Then, once we’d decided on Dexter, he started calling him the other name again.”
Despite the naming drama, Amy revealed that she and Sam had shortlisted other potential names but ruled them out due to the pronunciation issues and how easily they could be misheard. “We had some other fab ones that didn’t make the shortlist because of where we live and how we’d pronounce them or people mishearing them already,” she added.
Inspiration from a Love Story
The name Dexter holds sentimental value for Amy, as she explained it was inspired by the 2011 film One Day, where the male protagonist is named Dexter Mayhew. Amy revealed, “Years ago when we watched One Day, I said ‘I really like the name Dexter, especially shortened to Dexy, like Dexy’s Midnight Runners, like my fave song Come On Eileen.’”
Interestingly, the name Dexter only came up once from a comment and once in a direct message on social media. Nonetheless, Amy was clear about how deeply it resonated with her, and it now holds special meaning for her family.
A New Chapter for Amy and Sam

“We’ve obviously had two miscarriages before. So when we found out we were pregnant with Stanley, it was very unplanned. We were just like, ‘oh God, let’s take another test, we don’t know.’ And then when we got pregnant in December, we really just laughed because we were like, ‘oh my God, I can’t believe this first month of trying. This is so funny,’” she recalled. Unfortunately, she had a miscarriage shortly after, which made the eventual positive test feel like both a blessing and a challenge.
Throughout the process, Amy revealed that Sam became quite anxious, admitting that he couldn’t fully relax until their baby was born. Despite the challenges, Amy is focusing on her new role as a mother of two and is committed to her mental and emotional health as she navigates life after the loss of her father, Ozzy Osbourne, in July of last year.
