Tana Ramsay Pursues New Career as a Midwife: Family Fully Supports Her New Path
Tana Ramsay, 51, has reportedly embarked on a new journey to become a midwife after enrolling at a London university last year. The television personality and mother of six, who shares her children with her husband, renowned chef Gordon Ramsay, is said to have the full support of her family, who are “incredibly proud” of her decision to pursue this noble profession.
Tana and Gordon’s children include Megan, 27, twins Holly and Jack, 26, Tilly, 24, Oscar, six, and two-year-old Jesse. The couple has faced personal challenges, most notably the devastating loss of their stillborn son, Rocky, in 2016 at five months pregnant.
Despite being a successful author and frequently appearing on television alongside her husband, Tana’s decision to study midwifery has been described by family and friends as a “perfect match” for her. A source close to the Ramsays explained, “Tana has always been an incredibly kind, empathetic, and nurturing person. She was a nursery school teacher and is the type of person you’d want by your side during childbirth. Midwifery is a natural fit for her, and she’s absolutely thriving in the challenge.”
Gordon and the couple’s children are fully supportive of Tana’s career change. The source continued, “They couldn’t be more proud of her for choosing this path. She’s an inspiration to them all.”
Tana’s ambition to become a qualified midwife will require her to commit to three years of full-time study, alongside placements in NHS hospitals.
Tana’s interest in midwifery has deep personal roots, particularly after the loss of Rocky. She has long been a vocal advocate for midwives and maternal care. In 2024, Tana and Gordon joined forces to surprise Agnes Nisbett, an 87-year-old midwife who was honored with a Pride of Britain Award for her outstanding work with grieving mothers who lost their babies due to stillbirth. The cause is close to Tana’s heart, and she spoke emotionally about the profound impact midwives like Agnes have on parents facing such heartbreak.
Gordon shared during the awards, “Six years ago, we experienced that, so we couldn’t be happier to be here.” Tana added, “What Agnes has done for so many women is incredible. It’s exactly why she deserved this award. Gordon and I were honored to be part of her surprise and to speak from the heart about our own journey.”
Despite her successful career in media, Tana has previously spoken about the personal challenges she faced balancing her role as a mother with Gordon’s demanding career. In a candid interview, she reflected on the resentment she sometimes felt when she was responsible for much of the childcare for their older children while Gordon focused on his work. “There were times it felt really hard, but you get over it,” Tana confessed.
Tana and Gordon first met when she was a teenager, though she was initially unimpressed by the aspiring chef, describing him as “a complete arrogant arse.” The couple married in 1996 when Tana was just 21 years old. After studying for her Montessori Early Childhood Qualification in London, Tana worked as a Montessori teacher in Chiswick.
Over the past two decades, Tana has also built her own successful career in the culinary world, publishing six cookbooks and contributing to various magazines and newspapers. She previously owned a beauty salon in Wandsworth, London, called All About the Girl, which she ran until 2023.
As she embarks on this new chapter in her life, Tana Ramsay’s journey to become a midwife serves as a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to pursue one’s passions—and that family support can make all the difference.
