Lucy Mecklenburgh and Ryan Thomas Delay Wedding After Seven-Year Engagement Over Financial Concerns
After seven years of engagement, Lucy Mecklenburgh and Ryan Thomas have once again postponed their wedding plans. According to sources close to the couple, the latest delay is no longer due to the pandemic or busy schedules but is largely linked to financial concerns surrounding their relationship.

A Love Story That Began on Television
Lucy Mecklenburgh and Ryan Thomas first met in 2017 while filming Channel 4’s reality show Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls. Their relationship quickly attracted media attention and they soon became one of the most talked-about couples in British showbiz.
Two years later, in June 2019, Ryan proposed to Lucy in the romantic setting of Positano, Italy. However, their wedding plans were disrupted when the COVID-19 pandemic forced many couples around the world to postpone their ceremonies indefinitely.
In the years that followed, the couple focused on building a family. They now share two children, Roman, 6, and Lilah, 3, and often speak about their happy family life. Despite this, the long-awaited wedding has yet to take place.

Financial Concerns Become a Key Factor
Sources say Lucy, who comes from a wealthy background, has always been cautious when it comes to financial decisions. Her father, businessman Paul Mecklenburgh, owns an extensive property portfolio and is believed to have influenced Lucy’s careful approach to money management.
Ryan Thomas, however, has previously faced financial difficulties. In 2013, the actor was declared bankrupt after failing to pay a £40,000 tax bill, despite earning a significant income at the time.
More recently, reports indicated that his company, R James Thomas Ltd—used to manage his television and endorsement income—held just £1 in its accounts for the year leading up to January 2025 and still owed more than £30,000 in Covid Bounce Back Loans.
According to insiders, Lucy is concerned that marriage would legally tie their finances together. If Ryan were to face financial problems again, it could potentially affect her credit rating and financial stability.

A Strong Relationship Despite the Delay
Despite these concerns, Lucy is reportedly proud of Ryan’s efforts to rebuild his financial stability. The couple remains committed to each other and continues to focus on raising their two children.
Lucy has also been expanding her business ventures, particularly in fashion, while Ryan continues to pursue his acting and television career.
Although there is still no confirmed date for their wedding, those close to the couple say they are happy with their current life and are not rushing to formalize their relationship through marriage.
