Bob Harris Shares Health Update: Radio Legend Back in Hospital Amid Ongoing Cancer Battle
BBC Radio 2 legend Bob Harris, 73, has revealed that he is once again in hospital as he continues to battle prostate cancer. The beloved radio host shared the news with his fans, confirming that his ongoing health issues have forced him to take a break from his broadcasting duties.
Posting from his hospital bed, Bob explained, “Here I am in hospital, taking a short time away from my programmes on @bbcradio2 for treatment of an issue that has been building for the past few weeks.” He reiterated that while he suffers from prostate cancer, occasional setbacks like this are part of his journey, but he remains hopeful for a stronger recovery.
Prostate Cancer Setback
Bob, who has been battling prostate cancer for some time, clarified that his recent setback required immediate attention. Despite the health hurdle, he reassured fans that his shows are still scheduled, including this week’s “Country Show” and a special 80th birthday edition of “Sounds of the 70’s” airing on April 12, which he recorded before the health issues arose.
He expressed gratitude for the support of his BBC Radio 2 colleagues, including Darius Rucker and Shaun Keaveny, who will be stepping in to host during his absence.
Looking Forward to a Strong Return
Although Bob couldn’t provide an exact date for his return to the airwaves, he expressed a strong desire to come back “stronger” and as soon as possible. He said, “I hate missing programmes and I am keen to get back into the studio as soon as I can.”
Bob also shared his gratitude for the unwavering support from his family, friends, and BBC Radio 2 colleagues during this difficult time. “I am so blessed to have the love of my family and the support of my friends who have rallied round me,” he wrote, thanking his manager Nick Canham and his listeners for their heartfelt messages.
Fans Rally Behind Bob
Bob’s loyal listeners wasted no time sending their well-wishes. Many flooded his social media with messages of love and positivity, expressing their hope for his swift recovery. “Hope you’re feeling much better soon,” one fan commented, while another added, “Massive love and positive vibes, Bob!”
This is not the first time Bob has faced health challenges. In 2019, he had a serious heart scare that required him to take time off air after suffering a tear to his aorta.
A Legend of Radio
Bob Harris, who has been hosting “The Country Show” on BBC Radio 2 for years, is also known for his role as the host of the iconic BBC Two music show The Old Grey Whistle Test in the 1970s.
