Davina McCall and Jamie Theakston have shared a deeply personal and emotional conversation about their perspectives on life and death following their respective cancer battles. Both TV stars opened up on Heart Breakfast about how their experiences with health challenges have altered their views on mortality and their gratitude for life.
A Transformative Shift in Attitude 🌱

Davina, 58, revealed that after battling a rare brain tumor in 2024 followed by breast cancer in 2025, her attitude towards death has completely changed. “I am not afraid of dying anymore, it’s a lovely feeling,” she admitted. For Davina, surviving cancer has led her to embrace life in a new way, feeling “liberated” by no longer being afraid of what’s to come. “It feels liberating, though that’s what is interesting about it,” she shared, explaining how her experience has made her deeply grateful for the second chance she has at life.
Meanwhile, Jamie, 55, who survived laryngeal cancer with three successful surgeries, expressed that he still finds it difficult to face the idea of death. “No, I couldn’t face that now,” Jamie said when asked if he had come to terms with dying. “I wanted to see my kids grow up and see my grandchildren, and there were so many more things that I wanted to do,” he reflected, sharing his fear of leaving behind the future moments he’s eager to experience.
“Scanxiety” and Health Struggles 🩺

Despite their successful treatments, both stars admitted to experiencing “scanxiety” before medical checkups. While Jamie continues to grapple with the emotional weight of his health history, Davina has adopted a new approach to managing stress and her well-being. She acknowledged how confronting her breast cancer diagnosis pushed her to take meaningful steps in rethinking her career and health. “I have now realised that I really, really had to put that into place,” Davina explained, referring to the need for balance and reducing stress in her life.
A Shift Towards Balance and Self-Care 🌸

Davina, who has had a long and successful career hosting Big Brother and The Masked Singer, also shared that her brush with cancer led her to reassess her life and work schedule. “I’m going to work a four-day week. I feel so much better now about my life and trying to get it more balanced,” she said, highlighting her decision to prioritize her own well-being. This shift comes after decades of maintaining a hectic work schedule and facing personal challenges, including her past struggles with addiction.
“My latest project is me,” she added, emphasizing that she can’t take care of others if she’s not taking care of herself. Davina’s focus on self-care and personal growth marks a new chapter in her life, one rooted in balance and well-being.
Reflecting on Life and Love 💕
The candid conversation between Davina and Jamie reflects a powerful message of resilience and gratitude. Despite their health struggles, both are embracing life with a renewed sense of purpose. For Davina, her cancer journey has shown her the importance of change and self-care, while Jamie continues to find strength in his love for his children and the life he still wants to experience.
