Ali Bastian Opens Up About ‘Brutal’ Cancer Medication That Took A Toll on Her Body and Mind 💔
In a candid interview, former Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian, 44, revealed the emotional and physical toll that her ongoing breast cancer treatment has taken on her life. Having been diagnosed with stage two breast cancer in 2024, Ali underwent a series of intense treatments, including chemotherapy and a mastectomy.
The actress initially discovered the lump, which she thought was just a blocked milk duct while breastfeeding her daughter, a discovery that would change her life forever.
After months of grueling treatment, Ali shared in March 2025 that she was cancer-free. However, she is still on medication to prevent the cancer from returning, a path that she described as “brutal” and deeply challenging. Speaking to The Sun, Ali admitted:
“It’s so brutal. It’s a hell of a treatment pathway, and one you feel so conflicted about — you’re so grateful it exists, but at the same time it really takes its toll on your body, your mind, everything.”
She went on to explain how the treatment affects every part of her being:
“By the end of it, it’s hard to even find the words. It just strips you back — everything about you. Cancer affects every facet of your life, your being, your identity.”
Despite the hardships, Ali’s resilience shines through. Reflecting on the end of her chemotherapy and the aftermath of her mastectomy, she described feeling “more broken down than I’d ever felt,” adding: “I remember thinking, where am I in all of this? Who am I? You feel completely stripped back.”
Throughout the battle, Ali was supported by her loving family, including her husband David and their two children. She was also in “absolute survival mode” during the hardest times, saying there was no other option but to push forward.
When asked about her recovery, Ali explained that her body was still “under construction.” She weighed the option of undergoing reconstruction surgery, but ultimately decided to take her time and consider all her choices:
“Initially I was like 100 percent it’s happening. But now, I want to have the conversations and talk through what the options are, but I’m not actually married to any of them at the moment.”
Ali’s mental strength has been key throughout her journey. She noted that despite the challenges, she has found solace in the small victories, including the use of a prosthetic that has helped her regain a sense of normalcy:
“I’ve got a really good prosthetic that makes a big difference. It means in clothes I feel normal. It’s bright pink. It makes me happy.”
Her prosthetic has allowed her to feel more comfortable and confident, and she proudly shared that it was even something she could show her children. Ali emphasized that, despite everything, she remains a work in progress:
“I just keep saying to myself really, ‘I’m still under construction, I’ve been through a lot, I’m healing at the moment.'”
Ali Bastian’s story of strength, survival, and love continues to inspire, showing just how far one can go in the face of adversity. Despite the toll that cancer treatment has taken on her, her journey is far from over, and she remains hopeful for what the future holds.
