Dame Shirley Bassey has shared a rare and heartfelt health update with fans following surgery on her hand.

The legendary Welsh singer, 89, revealed earlier this year that she had been struggling with severe pain, making it difficult for her to write and personally respond to fan mail.

Now, in a new Instagram post, Dame Shirley reassured supporters that she is recovering well after her operation.

The beloved star shared a smiling photo from Madrid, where she was enjoying time in Spain. In the picture, she could be seen with her hand bandaged while sitting inside a restaurant that had reserved a special chair engraved with her name.

“Hello everyone! I am currently in Spain and at one of Madrid’s famous restaurants where they have dedicated a chair with my name on it! How fabulous,” she wrote.

She then thanked fans for their kind messages, adding: “Thank you so much for asking about my hand after surgery — it is slowly getting better.”

However, Dame Shirley admitted recovery has not been entirely easy.

“I still find it difficult to write and eat with my left hand, which is not easy, but it is helping with my diet!” she joked.

The music icon also revealed she would now be spending precious time with her son and his family, signing off her message with love and best wishes.

Fans quickly flooded the comments with emotional messages of support.

But in the same message, she also apologised to supporters, explaining that because of her hand surgery, she would no longer be able to personally reply to fan letters.
