Dr Ranj Singh’s ex-wife, Sulvinder Samra, has spoken publicly about the emotional impact of their divorce, describing the end of their marriage as “messy and painful.”
Sulvinder was married to the TV doctor for seven years before their relationship ended in 2011, after Dr Ranj came to terms with his sexuality and later came out as gay.
In a deeply personal Instagram post, shared on what would have been their 20th wedding anniversary, Sulvinder reflected on the life she once imagined for herself — marriage, children and a stable future — and how everything changed after the split.
She admitted the divorce left her feeling “unattractive,” “ashamed” and “not good enough,” adding that it took years for her to rebuild her confidence and stop letting the past control her future.
Sulvinder also revealed that the pain affected her ability to trust others and led her into unhealthy relationships. At one point, she accepted that motherhood might never be part of her story.
But years later, she decided to take back control of her life. She quit her job as a pharmacist and retrained as a nervous system coach, helping other women deal with stress, trauma and emotional pain.
Her journey was tested again when her sister was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, forcing Sulvinder to focus on family and what truly mattered.
Dr Ranj, who has also spoken about the breakdown of the marriage, previously said his life “fell apart” during that period, but that therapy and support from the LGBTQ+ community helped him understand and accept who he was.
The TV doctor is now in a relationship with actor James Colebrook, while Sulvinder says she has finally learned that her past does not have to define her future.
Ending her emotional post, she wrote that every day is a choice — and that everyone has the power to decide what their story becomes.
