John Barrowman Mourns Beloved Mother Marion Butler Barrowman
John Barrowman, star of I’m A Celebrity and the Torchwood series, has shared an emotional tribute following the death of his beloved mother, Marion Butler Barrowman, aged 91.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Barrowman revealed that he and his husband Scott were unable to be by her side at the moment of her passing due to being on a flight from the UK to the US. His father, brother, and sister were present, and the family remained connected via phone calls during her final moments. Upon returning home, John shared that he spent time beside his mother, speaking to her and softly singing to her before she passed .

Barrowman described his mother as “a unique woman — full of love, laughter, mischief, glamour, and kindness,” and shared that she had a passion for life, music, and her family. He added that she welcomed Scott as her son from the beginning and was a steadfast supporter of love and equality. “Marion loved life. She loved people. She loved laughter. And she loved all of you for loving me,” he wrote .

The actor also announced that, due to this heartbreaking loss, he has postponed all upcoming performances and events, including a scheduled show in Lichfield. He thanked fans for their understanding and support during this difficult period .

Tributes have poured in from colleagues and fellow celebrities. Alan Carr expressed his condolences, saying, “I’m very sorry for your family’s loss.” Bonnie Langford added, “I am so sorry to hear this, John. My deepest condolences to you, Scott, and your family.” Britain’s Got Talent winner Jai McDowell also offered his sympathy, sending “heartfelt condolences to the family” .

Marion Butler Barrowman was born on 13 July 1934 and passed away peacefully at home on 24 May 2026, surrounded by family. John and Scott concluded their tribute, signing off: “Forever loved, John & Scott” .
