❤️ Mark Consuelos has revealed the heartfelt secret behind his remarkable 30-year marriage to Kelly Ripa — and his answer is as simple as it is deeply romantic.
The Live with Kelly and Mark co-host, 55, opened up about his lasting relationship with Kelly after the couple celebrated their milestone 30th wedding anniversary on May 1. And after three decades, three children and a love story that began on one of America’s most beloved soaps, Mark says the foundation of their marriage comes down to advice he received from his late father.
Speaking on the iHeartRadio podcast I’ve Never Said This Before with Tommy DiDario, Mark recalled a powerful life lesson from his dad, Saul Consuelos, who died on March 23 after a lengthy illness.
“One of the great things my dad taught me was… you gotta find somebody that’s better than you,” Mark shared emotionally. “Find somebody who’s gonna pull you up, that’s gonna make you better. And I did.”
For fans, the words felt especially moving because Kelly and Mark’s love story has always seemed to have a touch of destiny about it 💫
The couple first met on the set of All My Children, where they played on-screen love interests. Viewers quickly sensed the chemistry between them — and as Mark now admits, they were absolutely right.

“They watched us fall in love on a soap,” he said. “They saw these two characters playing boyfriend and girlfriend… and yeah, we were. We really, really, really, really were.”
That real-life romance soon became one of daytime television’s most cherished love stories. After just one year of dating, Kelly and Mark eloped in Las Vegas on May 1, 1996, beginning a marriage that would eventually become one of Hollywood’s rarest success stories.
Three decades later, they are still together, still laughing, still working side by side, and still making fans believe in lasting love ✨
The pair now share three grown children — Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 23 — and have built a life that has unfolded partly in public, but always with a sense of humour and honesty that viewers adore.
Mark acknowledged that fans remain “super invested” in their relationship, largely because they have watched the couple grow from young soap stars to real-life spouses, parents and now morning-show co-hosts.
For him, there is no hidden mystery behind what viewers see.
“I think what you see is what you get,” he said.
And perhaps that is exactly why people love them.
Kelly and Mark do not present themselves as a perfect couple floating above real life. They tease each other, laugh at themselves, bicker playfully on air and speak openly about the ordinary rhythm of long marriage. Their charm comes from the fact that they feel real — glamorous, yes, but still grounded in family, loyalty and shared history ❤️
During their anniversary celebration on Live with Kelly and Mark, Kelly described marrying Mark as the “best thing” she has ever done in her life.
Mark, meanwhile, said their connection never felt like a complicated decision.
“It was a thing that was destined to happen,” he shared.
That sense of destiny has followed them from their All My Children days to their current role as one of morning television’s most recognisable husband-and-wife teams. But behind the cameras, the real strength of their marriage appears to be mutual respect — the feeling that each partner helps the other become better.
In a celebrity world where long-term marriages often collapse under pressure, fame and constant scrutiny, Kelly and Mark’s 30-year bond feels quietly extraordinary.
Their secret is not scandalous. It is not dramatic. It is not about perfection.
It is about choosing someone who lifts you up, grows with you and still feels like home after all these years 💍
And for Mark Consuelos, that person has always been Kelly Ripa.
