Zayn Malik has been forced to cancel a significant portion of his much-anticipated 31-date solo tour after being hospitalized with a mystery illness. The former One Direction heartthrob, now 33, shared an update with his fans, assuring them that he is recovering well and is eager to get back to performing as soon as possible.
Originally set to kick off his tour in Manchester on May 12, Zayn’s schedule has now been drastically reduced. The tour will now begin in London, followed by a rescheduled performance in Manchester the next day. The illness, which has kept him sidelined, has prompted Zayn to cut down his tour to just nine shows.
In an emotional message posted on Instagram Stories, Zayn expressed his gratitude to fans for their unwavering support, especially during his recovery period. “Thank you so much for all the support and love you’ve shown me on the album release and more importantly your love, prayers, and well wishes for my health. I’ve felt it, and it’s meant the world,” he said. He further reassured fans, saying, “I’ve been at home recovering and I’m doing well and will be better and stronger than before.”
Zayn had previously been preparing for his biggest solo tour to date, with stops across North America, South America, and Mexico, before it was cut short due to his health issues. While dates in Glasgow and Dublin have been cancelled, Zayn is still set to perform in several cities in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Brazil.
The news follows Zayn’s recent struggles with mental health, including reports of extreme anxiety that led him to cancel previous shows. Fans have shown overwhelming support for the star, with many sending flowers and well wishes.
Zayn’s family has also urged fans to channel their support in a meaningful way, asking for donations to The Palestine Project in lieu of flowers during Ramadan.
