💔 A Place In The Sun presenter Scarlette Douglas has delivered an emotional and deeply honest reflection on the realities of being a Black woman in television — admitting there are times when she feels she can “never win.”
The TV presenter and property expert, 39, opened up candidly about the prejudice, pressure and emotional exhaustion she has experienced throughout her career, revealing she has often felt forced to work “twice as hard” simply to be taken seriously.
Speaking openly about her journey in the entertainment industry, Scarlette admitted she has long carried the feeling that people underestimate her the moment she walks into a room.

“I’ve always felt that I’ve walked into a room, and instantly there’s that kind of air of, ‘Oh, they’re not gonna be that good,’” she explained emotionally. 💔
The presenter said her parents had warned her from a young age that she would need to work harder than others to succeed — advice she says sadly proved true.
“I have to work twice as hard because I’m wanted twice as less,” she admitted.
The heartbreaking statement has resonated with many viewers online, especially as Scarlette described the emotional balancing act many women of colour face when trying to speak honestly about discrimination without being unfairly labelled or stereotyped.

“If you’re a Black woman and you speak up, suddenly you’re ‘an angry Black woman’ or ‘she’s got a chip on her shoulder,’” she said.
“So when can I say something?” 😢
For Scarlette, that question lies at the centre of the struggle.
She explained that even discussing race can feel emotionally exhausting because of the fear of backlash, misunderstanding or accusations of causing drama. Instead of being able to simply express frustration or concern openly, she often feels pressure to carefully manage how her words will be perceived.
“I have to think about how I say it,” she explained. “Whereas really, I just want to be able to say what I can say and people just listen.”
The presenter stressed that her goal has never been conflict — only understanding.
“All I ever want is for people to listen,” she said, adding that many other people of colour working in television and media share similar experiences behind the scenes ❤️

Scarlette’s honesty has drawn praise because it shines a light on an issue many viewers rarely see: the emotional labour involved in constantly feeling the need to prove yourself while also carefully navigating stereotypes.
And despite the challenges, she says those experiences have shaped the work ethic that helped her build a successful career.
Rather than giving up, Scarlette pushed harder.
“I don’t take no for an answer,” she said. “I will keep pushing.”
That determination helped transform her into one of British television’s most recognisable property presenters. She became widely known through A Place In The Sun before later appearing on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2022.
But even after reaching that level of visibility, she says the pressure has never fully disappeared.
At the same time, Scarlette believes there has been positive change in recent years, with more Black voices in television beginning to speak openly about their experiences and demand better conversations around representation and treatment in the industry ✨
“Being Black in the industry, we are finding our voices a lot more,” she explained. “We are more confident to talk about it.”
Still, she acknowledged those conversations can make some people uncomfortable.
But for Scarlette, discomfort is part of growth.
“All I need to do is get a conversation started so people can actually try and understand someone else’s perspective on life,” she said.
The emotional interview has sparked strong reactions online, with many fans praising Scarlette’s courage, vulnerability and honesty. Others thanked her for articulating experiences that so many people quietly endure every day in workplaces across the country.
Beyond television, Scarlette continues to use her platform to advocate for positivity, confidence and meaningful conversations — even when those conversations are difficult.
And perhaps that is what makes her words hit so hard.
Behind the glamorous television career and bright on-screen smile is someone who has often felt underestimated, unheard and forced to prove herself again and again.
Yet despite everything, she keeps showing up.
Keeps speaking.
Keeps pushing forward 💔✨
