Radio DJ Zoe Ball has opened up about her 16-year-old daughter Nelly’s ADHD diagnosis, revealing that she is the third member of their family to be diagnosed with the behavioral condition. Zoe herself, along with her son Woody, 25, also live with ADHD, a condition characterized by inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.
In a candid interview with The Mirror, Zoe shared her experiences of managing ADHD within her family. She mentioned that Nelly, who is now on medication, has found strategies to cope with her condition, such as organizing her room every Sunday night in preparation for the week ahead. “I can see why Nelly might live in chaos, with clothes everywhere,” Zoe explained, “but now, she tidies her room, gets ready for school, and has a nice shower. I’ve loved seeing her find this routine.”
Zoe first discovered her own ADHD diagnosis in December 2023, and it has since helped her understand her children’s challenges. She emphasized how learning about ADHD and how it affects them has been an eye-opening experience, helping her gain insight into her own behavior and habits.
Her son Woody, a DJ who made his Glastonbury debut in 2024, has also embraced his ADHD, describing it as a key part of his unique style. “I move around a lot behind the decks, and ADHD has contributed to my style. It allows me to be more connected with the crowd,” Woody explained. His father, DJ Fatboy Slim, has been a source of life advice, though he didn’t teach Woody the technical side of DJing. Instead, Fatboy Slim’s guidance focused on how to stand out in a competitive field.
Zoe’s dedication to raising awareness about ADHD has been evident in her support for her children. She also shared heartwarming moments from Nelly’s recent 16th birthday, posting sweet throwback photos and videos of their family celebrations. Despite her split from Nelly’s father, Fatboy Slim, in 2016, Zoe and Norman Cook have remained close co-parents and friends, often sharing fond memories and family moments.
Zoe’s openness about her family’s journey with ADHD is helping to reduce stigma and promote understanding about the condition, showing how it has shaped their lives in both challenging and positive ways.
