Zoe Ball Admits Her Home Feels “So Quiet” After Daughter Nelly Moves In With Dad Fatboy Slim
Zoe Ball has opened up about a tender new chapter in her family life after revealing that her teenage daughter Nelly is now spending more time living with her father, Norman Cook — better known to millions as Fatboy Slim.
The beloved broadcaster and podcaster, 55, spoke candidly about the emotional shift during the latest episode of Jo Whiley and Zoe’s Dig It podcast, admitting that her home has become noticeably quieter as her 16-year-old daughter settles more permanently at her dad’s house.
Zoe, who shares Nelly and 25-year-old son Woody with her ex-husband Norman, explained that the change appears to be partly about stability for her daughter, especially while she is studying.
Comparing her own quieter home life with Jo Whiley’s busier household, Zoe confessed: “Mine’s so quiet, it’s like ugh!”
She added that Nelly seems to have reached a point where moving between two homes has become tiring, saying her daughter simply wants to be in one place more often.
According to Zoe, Nelly’s revision notes are now up on the walls at her father’s house, making it easier for her to focus without constantly moving belongings back and forth.
But despite the emotional adjustment, Zoe made it clear there is no bitterness or tension behind the arrangement. In fact, she said the situation works well because Norman lives close by, allowing mother and daughter to remain connected whenever Nelly needs her.
“It’s great because it’s only around the corner and I can nip round at any time,” Zoe explained, adding that Nelly can still come to her whenever she feels upset or needs her mum.
The update offers a rare glimpse into Zoe’s blended family life with Norman, whom she married in 1999 after the pair first met in Ibiza in the late 1990s. Although their marriage ended years ago, the two have maintained a close and respectful co-parenting relationship.
Their son Woody has also built his own independent life, previously revealing that he had moved to Bristol while both of his parents remained based in Brighton.
Zoe’s comments come as she continues to speak openly about love, parenting and the complicated emotions that can come with moving on after a long relationship.
In another recent podcast discussion, she admitted that she has not always handled new relationships perfectly, particularly when it came to introducing partners to her children too quickly.
Reflecting on past mistakes, Zoe said that bringing someone new into family life can be “tricky” and advised others not to rush the process.
She explained that, with age and experience, she has learned the importance of keeping a private romantic life separate from children until the timing feels right.
Zoe is currently believed to be dating BAFTA-winning production designer Mathieu Weekes, more than a year after their relationship reportedly began.
Before that, she was in a long-term relationship with former construction worker Michael Reed, which ended in 2023.
Despite the ups and downs of her personal life, Zoe’s latest comments show a mother adjusting to change with honesty, warmth and quiet vulnerability.
For many parents, the moment a child begins to build a life elsewhere can feel bittersweet. And for Zoe, the silence at home appears to mark both a loss and a proud new stage — one where her daughter is growing up, finding stability, and still keeping her mum close.
