Travis Kelce has revealed the softer side behind his larger-than-life NFL personality, promising that his four nieces will always have someone they can turn to when they are in trouble.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end opened up about his bond with brother Jason Kelce’s daughters during an appearance on sister-in-law Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast.
Travis is uncle to Wyatt, Elliotte, Bennett and Finnley, and has earned a reputation within the family as the fun-loving relative who is ready to play the moment he walks through the door.
But beneath the jokes and games, the 36-year-old made clear that he takes his role in their lives seriously.
“They’ve got to know that they have somebody to come to, no matter what,” Travis said. “And I’ll always be there for them.”
Would Uncle Travis cover for them?
The touching conversation began after Kylie showed Travis a social media clip featuring a schoolboy who had received a poor test grade.
Rather than taking the paper home to his parents, the child rode to his aunt’s house and asked her to sign it.
Kylie then asked how quickly Travis would agree to do the same for her eldest daughter, Wyatt.
Travis admitted that he would almost certainly sign the test — but he would not completely hide the situation from Jason and Kylie.
He joked that he would let Wyatt feel she had a trusted adult on her side while still making sure her parents knew she was struggling at school.
Travis said he would tell them their daughter was failing, before humorously warning them to pretend they had not heard the information from him.
Kylie agreed that he could support his niece while quietly keeping her parents informed.
A lesson from his own childhood
Travis explained that his willingness to help came partly from his own experiences growing up.
He admitted that he had sometimes been the “knucklehead” who avoided speaking to his parents when he had made a mistake.
Rather than asking an adult for help, he occasionally tried to solve the problem himself — including signing documents that should have been given to his parents.
Those decisions did not end well, he acknowledged.
That history appears to have shaped the kind of uncle he wants to be.
Travis wants his nieces to feel safe asking him for help before a small problem becomes something more serious.
He may joke with them and occasionally help soften the consequences, but he also understands the importance of keeping Jason and Kylie involved.
Wyatt immediately came to mind
When discussing the imaginary school situation, Travis instinctively focused on six-year-old Wyatt.
He admitted he was not entirely sure why, before recognising that she came to mind because she is the oldest of the four girls.
Kylie and Jason are also parents to Elliotte, Bennett and baby Finnley.
As the eldest, Wyatt has had the longest opportunity to develop her own special relationship with Uncle Travis.
The Chiefs star has frequently been seen playing with his nieces, carrying them around and giving them his full attention during family gatherings.
His latest comments showed that he wants to offer them more than entertainment.
He wants to be a dependable adult in their lives as they grow older.
“King of the funcles”
Kylie has previously described Travis as the “king of the funcles,” combining the words “fun” and “uncle.”
She explained that her daughters know exactly what to expect when he arrives.
Travis immediately becomes completely focused on them.
If they ask him to sit or play on the floor, he is often already down there before they finish asking.
Kylie joked that her own energy has been worn down by life with four young children, while Travis arrives fresh, enthusiastic and ready for action.
His visits even give her a rare chance to enjoy basic moments of self-care.
With Travis entertaining the children, Kylie can drink a warm cup of coffee or take a peaceful shower.
For a busy mother of four, she admitted that his presence can be extremely helpful.
More than the fun uncle
Travis’ playful personality has always been part of his close relationship with the girls.
But his promise to stand by them revealed a more protective side.
He understands that as children grow older, they may not always feel comfortable taking every problem directly to their parents.
By positioning himself as another trusted adult, Travis hopes his nieces will never feel they have to face difficulties alone.
He may sign a disappointing test paper.
He may offer reassurance before telling Jason and Kylie what happened.
And he will almost certainly add a joke along the way.
But his message was sincere: whatever mistake they make, they can call Uncle Trav.
A special family bond
Away from football, business ventures and his high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift, Travis has remained closely connected to his family.
His bond with Jason has become central to their hugely successful New Heights podcast, while his relationship with Kylie and the girls regularly gives fans a glimpse of life away from the NFL.
Donna Kelce has also spoken proudly about watching her younger son interact with his nieces.
For the family, Travis is not only a Super Bowl champion or one of football’s biggest personalities.
He is the uncle who gets on the floor to play.
The relative who brings fresh energy into the house.
And the person his nieces can trust when they need help.
Travis Kelce may be known to millions as number 87.
But to Wyatt, Elliotte, Bennett and Finnley, he is simply Uncle Trav — and he has promised he will always be there.
