Tracy Shaw, best known for her role as Maxine Peacock on Coronation Street, has revealed she is currently battling a blood infection while undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The 52-year-old actress shared an emotional update with fans via Instagram, detailing the intense side effects of chemotherapy and the challenges of managing a serious infection alongside cancer care.
Shaw, who disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis in April, explained that she had been admitted to hospital and placed in intensive care before being discharged to continue treatment at home. “I was discharged from intensive care last night because being at home is better for patients like me,” she said in a heartfelt video filmed in her garden.
The infection, described by Shaw as “a type they are still trying to identify,” is being treated with strong antibiotics. She emphasized the importance of vigilance when undergoing chemotherapy, noting that infections can be particularly dangerous during cancer treatment.
Shaw provided candid insight into the physical toll, revealing that she was receiving intravenous fluids and spending much of her time resting. She described the impact on her body, including the effects of chemotherapy on her mucous membranes, fatigue, and the constant cycle of medical check-ups.
Despite the adversity, Shaw expressed gratitude for the support of medical staff and the NHS, stating, “I am very well cared for. She recently cut her hair to donate to The Little Princess Trust, an organisation that provides wigs to children undergoing cancer treatment. “A step further on my breast cancer journey,” she commented alongside the video of her hair donation.
