BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty has explained her recent absence from the show after suffering a painful fall during a run. The 47-year-old, who is known for her role presenting the morning news, took to social media to share the unfortunate incident with her fans, revealing that the fall left her “bruised and battered.”
Naga, an avid runner who often shares updates on her fitness journey, described the mishap as a “bad, bad, bad” experience while running on a “very gravelly country lane.” The fall caused some discomfort and minor injuries, including bruising and cuts. “I fell over running. It was bad, bad, bad – and very annoying,” Naga explained. “I’ll recover, but I’m bruised and battered with a little bit of blood here and there.”
The Impact of the Fall
While recounting the incident, Naga detailed how she instinctively threw her arms out to cushion the fall. She also mentioned that she may have gravel embedded in her palm, though it wasn’t deep enough to warrant further concern. “I’m not sure if I have gravel embedded in the skin of my palm. It’s not massively deep but I don’t want to stick a pin in to try and dig it out,” she said, adding some light humor to her otherwise painful situation.
Naga’s History of Leg Injuries
The accident comes after years of Naga dealing with various leg injuries, which she has openly discussed in the past. In 2019, she damaged her knee, and the following year, while heading to the BBC Breakfast studio, she dislocated the same knee. Despite ongoing physical challenges, Naga has continued her passion for running, but the injuries have made it harder to recover as quickly as she once did.
She has also spoken about the difficulty of dealing with tendonitis, sore hips, and the recurring issues with her knee, revealing in 2021 that the pain still affects her daily life. “It keeps popping in and out,” she said about her knee, adding that it had been “taking me ages particularly to recover from the tendonitis.”
Pushing Through the Pain
Naga’s commitment to her fitness journey, despite the injuries, remains strong. In 2023, she shared a photo after pulling a muscle during her first long run in two years. “Only went and pulled a calf muscle halfway through my run. Walked home the rest of the way. Luckily I wasn’t too far away, and I think it’s not too bad,” she wrote, showing her resilience despite the setback.
Though Naga has vowed never to run the London Marathon again after injuring her leg during the 2013 race, her passion for running remains evident as she continues to push through her physical challenges, making her recovery an ongoing part of her journey.
Fans have sent their well wishes to Naga, wishing her a speedy recovery as she heals from the latest injury. Despite the fall, Naga’s determination and positive attitude remain unchanged, and fans can expect her to bounce back and return to BBC Breakfast soon.
