Maureen Lipman, 79, and her new husband, David Turner, 80, have shared their joyful and unexpected love story, proving that it’s never too late to find happiness. Six months after tying the knot in a private ceremony at David’s son’s London home, the couple has opened up about their whirlwind romance and newfound happiness in their late seventies.
A Whirlwind Romance and a Spontaneous Proposal 💐

The couple’s journey began in 2023, and just a year later, Maureen took the bold step of proposing to David while they were on a train. “It was a gag, but I couldn’t resist,” Maureen shared. “Unable to resist the joke, I slid under the table and asked him for his hand. To my surprise and slight panic, he gave it.”
Despite the years they’ve lived, Maureen described how their connection felt like fate. “It somehow felt like we’d known each other for the whole of our lives,” she said. Their whirlwind engagement culminated in a beautiful ceremony in September 2024, marking the start of their next chapter together.
A Gift to Each Other 🎁

Maureen’s joy was palpable as she spoke about her relationship with David. “It’s a gift for all concerned,” she shared with The Sunday Times. “He’s been very nice. I’ve met some nice men in my life, and we will see where it goes.” David, who had just lost his wife of 50 years, Frances, to Alzheimer’s, had struggled with the grief of her passing. “When I first met Maureen, I hadn’t been in a place to find love again,” he admitted. “But after spending time with her, I realized I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.”
Family Support and Excitement 👨👩👧

The couple’s families have been supportive of their relationship, with Maureen sharing that her children, Amy and Adam, were thrilled with the news of her marriage. “All reactions were warm,” Maureen said. “One child needed time to process it, but overall, they were happy for us.” Maureen has previously spoken about how difficult it was to lose her first husband, TV scriptwriter Jack Rosenthal, and her partner Guido Castro, who passed away in 2021. Despite the losses, she found new joy and comfort in David’s company.
A Changed Perspective on Love 🌟

Maureen’s journey to love again has been a surprising and beautiful one, especially after the hardships she’s faced in her earlier relationships. She admitted, “I’ve found someone to look after and someone who wants to look after me. What we have is rare and precious, and I hope I don’t mess it up.” Her reflections on love later in life offer a powerful message of resilience and optimism.
Now, as the couple enjoys their time together, Maureen’s joy shines through. Her marriage to David Turner is a testament to the idea that true love can happen at any age, and that the second half of life can still hold plenty of unexpected delights.
