Kym Marsh Opens Up About Her Father’s Cancer Battle and the Impact of Delayed Diagnosis
Kym Marsh has shared the heartbreaking story of how her family was torn apart when her father, Dave, was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer in 2024. Dave, 78, passed away after a three-year battle with the disease, which had spread throughout his body after delays in seeking medical care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking out about the devastating effects of a late diagnosis, Marsh highlighted the critical importance of early detection, especially as prostate cancer remains the most common cancer affecting men in the UK. “We were all crushed when we found out it was terminal. It was a real blow,” she said.
Describing her father as the “heart of the family,” Marsh reflected on his unwavering courage and dedication to his loved ones. “He was tiny but had the heart of a lion,” she said, recalling how her dad, despite his health struggles, always remained strong for his family. “He loved my mum so much—they were inseparable.”

Marsh has made it her mission to raise awareness about prostate cancer since her father’s passing, urging others to seek medical attention early and avoid the painful consequences of late diagnoses. “We’re doing everything we can to make sure my dad’s legacy lives on and helps others,” she said.

This weekend, Marsh and her family will gather to support Carmen Dickinson, her future daughter-in-law, as she participates in the London Marathon to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK in memory of Dave. “Carmen has never met my dad, but it’s amazing that she wants to do this for us, for my dad, and for prostate cancer,” Marsh said.
Prostate cancer continues to affect thousands of men in the UK, with the risk significantly increasing for those over 50, Black men, and those with a family history of the disease. Symptoms can be subtle, but early intervention can save lives. Marsh’s family is determined to ensure that other families don’t experience the same heartache they did.
