Josie Gibson, 41, has shared an emotional update on her battle with lipoedema and her recent decision to undergo brachioplasty surgery (an arm lift) to help manage the condition. The This Morning presenter revealed that she had 45% of her arm removed during the procedure, which also included liposuction to help flatten the fat buildup caused by lipoedema.
Lipoedema and the Impact on Josie’s Confidence
In a series of candid Instagram Stories, Josie explained the challenges she faced with her condition, which affects the legs, hips, bottom, and sometimes arms. She admitted feeling self-conscious in vest tops and desired a change so she could feel confident during the summer months. “I just felt gross whenever I was in a vest top,” Josie said. “I just wanna go out in the summer and feel alright when I put a vest top on.”
Lipoedema, a condition more common in women, causes abnormal fat and connective tissue buildup, often resulting in disproportionate body changes that can be physically and emotionally challenging. Josie said that despite her busy lifestyle, the surgery has “really stopped me in my tracks,” though she’s been fortunate not to experience any pain during recovery.
45% of Her Arm Removed
Describing the procedure, Josie shared, “I’ve had 45% of my arm removed, I’ve got my bandages on, and that just keeps your arm all intact.” She also expressed gratitude for her quick recovery, saying, “I feel really good, considering I’ve had 45% of my arm removed.”
She revealed that while the surgery had no associated pain, it did temporarily limit her activities, such as simple tasks like taking out the bins. Despite these setbacks, Josie is relieved to have gone through with the surgery and is happy with the results so far.
Gratitude for the Medical Team and Recovery Process
Josie thanked Paul Tulley and his team for their amazing work, expressing that she felt relaxed and cared for during the procedure. She also sought lymphatic drainage from Karla Santos, emphasizing the importance of post-surgery care to support her recovery.
Josie is set to return to London at the end of next week to have her bandages removed, and she plans to update her followers on the progress of her recovery with another video.
Empowering Others with Her Journey
Josie’s transparency about her health and her choice to document her journey is inspiring to many who may be facing similar challenges with body image or health conditions. By sharing her experience with lipoedema and the steps she’s taken to feel more confident, Josie continues to empower her fans to embrace their own bodies and take control of their health. 💖
We wish Josie all the best as she continues to recover and embrace the changes she’s made!
