John Tesh, the former Entertainment Tonight cohost, has defied the odds and lived far beyond the prognosis he was given more than a decade ago. Diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer in 2015, Tesh was told he had only 18 months to live. Now, 10 years later, the 73-year-old TV legend is still alive and continuing his life and career, despite facing the challenges of living with cancer.
The Diagnosis and the Journey 🌟
Tesh’s journey began with a devastating diagnosis in 2015, when doctors revealed that his cancer was so advanced that surgery might not be possible, and his time was limited. However, his determination, combined with the support of his wife, actress Connie Sellecca, 70, has played a key role in his survival. “Without Connie, who has been my advocate over the years, I wouldn’t be talking — I’d be dead,” Tesh said. “I would have been dead in 2015.”
Following his diagnosis, Tesh underwent a radical prostatectomy, hoping it would be a cure. Unfortunately, in 2017, an MRI scan revealed that the cancer had spread to his pelvic lymph nodes. That’s when Connie stepped in, urging him to seek treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston—a decision that may have saved his life. “She contacted people she knew, and they said, ‘You’ve got to come here to MD Anderson,’” Tesh recalled.
A Lifelong Battle with ‘Pulsing’ Treatments 🔬
Although Tesh’s cancer is never truly in remission, it is stable, thanks to ongoing treatment. He explained the concept of ‘pulsing,’ where doctors allow the cancer to grow for a period before beginning treatment again. “It’s scary until you get used to it,” Tesh admitted. “It’s a frightening thought… why am I living with cancer?” Despite the uncertainty, Tesh remains positive, taking each day with gratitude.
Grateful for Every Moment 🙏
Tesh, who is also an accomplished musician and composer, continues to live with a sense of appreciation for each day. “I shouldn’t even be alive now. I’m really grateful,” he shared. “This is a great place right now—this minute to be grateful.”
