Jesse Ridgway and Wife Heartbroken After Ending Pregnancy Following Down Syndrome Diagnosis

YouTuber Jesse Ridgway and his wife Ashley have shared the deeply difficult decision they made regarding their first pregnancy.

In a series of Instagram Stories, Jesse revealed that the couple decided to terminate the pregnancy after receiving a diagnosis of Trisomy 21, also known as Down syndrome.

The 33-year-old YouTuber admitted the news came as a major shock and described the experience as “extremely traumatic” for both him and Ashley. He said the decision was not made lightly, but came after many conversations with family, friends, doctors and genetic counsellors.

Jesse explained that, at first, he tried to stay optimistic and believed he could face whatever challenges came with becoming a father. However, after learning more about the health issues that can be associated with Down syndrome, the couple felt they had to make the choice they believed was best for their family’s future.

He also acknowledged that some fans may be disappointed or disagree with their decision, but asked people to understand that it was a deeply personal, painful and difficult choice.

In his statement, Jesse also addressed people with Down syndrome, people with autism and their families, saying they matter and deserve to be valued. He added that he respects the strength of families who continue forward in similar circumstances.

Jesse and Ashley first announced their pregnancy in March, sharing sonogram photos with the caption: “Baby Ridgway – Coming Fall 2026.”

Although they are now facing a heartbreaking loss, the couple said they need time to heal and still hope to try for another pregnancy in the future.
