Gemma Collins, the 45-year-old reality star and TV personality, has bravely opened up about the emotional impact her IVF journey had on her relationship with fiancé Rami Hawash. In an emotional interview, she revealed that her relationship with Rami “took a hit” during her struggle to conceive, which left her feeling “broken.”

Gemma, who rekindled her romance with businessman Rami in 2020 after her split from James ‘Arg’ Argent, is now engaged and planning to marry Rami later this year. However, her journey to parenthood has been anything but easy. In a sneak peek of her new Sky series Four Weddings And A Baby, Gemma shared how her desire to have a baby became a source of deep emotional turmoil. She admitted that while trying to conceive, her relationship with Rami suffered, as she was consumed with the trauma and struggles of the IVF process.
“My relationship was obviously taking a bit of a hit,” Gemma confessed, explaining the toll her IVF journey had on her. “I was trying to have a baby – my whole world just fell apart. Because I was going through so much trauma and struggles, there was no performative person there.”

Gemma continued to be candid about the difficulties she faced in her personal life while filming the series, saying, “Everyone gets to see the real me – you’re in my home. It’s what people don’t see. I was broken.”
Despite the emotional rollercoaster of the IVF process, Gemma remains hopeful about the future. She’s already a stepmother to Rami’s seven-year-old son, Tristan, and has been very open about her desire to expand their family. She’s previously spoken about considering surrogacy and fostering, especially since her own mother was fostered as a child. Gemma’s journey through IVF has also been influenced by her medical history, as she has polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and a low number of AMH hormones, which affects her fertility.

Having suffered multiple miscarriages in the past, including one at home in 2012 that she hadn’t spoken about until 2020, Gemma’s experience with loss has been both emotionally and physically taxing. She shared that her first miscarriage occurred without her even realizing she was pregnant, and she had to deal with the pain of losing her baby on her own.
“I didn’t realize I was pregnant at the time, and the baby died in front of me,” she recalled, remembering the heartbreaking experience.

Gemma’s second miscarriage occurred in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by a third in the same year, just months after her breakup with James ‘Arg’ Argent. These experiences have only fueled her desire to continue fighting for the family she dreams of having.
In her recent updates, Gemma also shared her decision to abandon her plans to move to Dubai with Rami and Tristan, citing the ongoing war in the Middle East as the main reason. She admitted that she would miss the UK too much and expressed her deep love for Britain, despite the allure of Dubai’s luxury.

“I love Britain. I love afternoon tea. I love driving into London and seeing Big Ben. No one’s a bigger rep for the UK than me,” Gemma declared. “But I think those discussions always come about in the winter months, and I do struggle with SAD [Seasonal Affective Disorder], and I’m like, ‘Oh, moving to Dubai would be nice.’”
Gemma’s plans for her wedding are equally ambitious, as she envisions multiple celebrations – a main ceremony in the UK, a second one abroad, and a “formal one” with close family and friends. True to her style, Gemma plans to wear several wedding dresses for her various celebrations.
The reality star also reflected on how much Rami has supported her throughout her career, even when she was starting out in the industry. She shared a touching message on social media, remembering how Rami helped her with the costs of her early TV appearances and encouraged her to pursue her dreams. “Years ago when I met Rami I was selling cars! I then gave it all up for £50 a day but it was the best risk I took, and I wouldn’t change it for the world,” Gemma said. “Rami would always say to me, ‘You’re gonna make it, you will be successful,’ and would give me money for my hair, makeup, and outfits. He supported me.”

Gemma’s relationship with Rami has grown stronger over the years, and she continues to express her deep love for him. “He loves me with no makeup, the natural me. He loves me just the way I am,” she said, paying tribute to Rami’s unwavering support and their strong bond.
As Gemma moves forward in her relationship with Rami and their journey to expand their family, she remains an inspiration to many, showing the importance of resilience, love, and dedication in both personal and professional life.
