Ed Sheeran has shared a rare and emotional update about his wife, Cherry Seaborn, as she continues to recover from a cancer battle. In a candid interview on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, Ed reflected on one of the most difficult periods of his life when he received the devastating news about Cherry’s health.
A Terrifying Health Scare

Ed revealed that Cherry was diagnosed with cancer while she was pregnant with their second child, making the situation even more harrowing. “The day Cherry rang me up and said that she had cancer — that was probably one of the worst days,” he recalled. “That was actually probably the worst week, because Jamal died that week, as well. Then we went straight into the court case. And then Shane died on the first day of court.”
Ed was referring to the loss of his best friend, Jamal Edwards, and the passing of cricket legend Shane Warne during the same week. It was a time of immense personal turmoil for the singer, as he was faced with not only the heartbreaking news about Cherry’s health but also the pain of losing close friends.
Cherry’s Surgery and Recovery

Thankfully, Cherry underwent the necessary operation to remove the tumor after giving birth to their second child, a son named Jupiter. Ed confirmed that she is now doing fine and is in good health. “She’s fine. I mean, she had the operation. She was pregnant at the time, so that’s why it was difficult,” Ed shared. “Thankfully, touch wood, totally fine. It was [bleep]ing scary.”
Ed’s vulnerability and openness about this difficult chapter in his life resonated deeply with his fans, who have supported the couple throughout this challenging journey.
The Impact on Ed’s Music
Ed’s recent album Subtract was inspired by the many personal trials he faced, including Cherry’s health battle. He had previously opened up about how the events of that time, including Cherry’s diagnosis, Jamal’s death, and the emotional toll it all took on him, influenced his songwriting. “Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth,” Ed had revealed in 2023. “I was spiralling through fear, depression, and anxiety.”
Family and Hope

Amid all the heartbreak, there is hope. Cherry and Ed are now parents to two daughters — Lyra Antarctica, born in 2020, and Jupiter, born in May 2022. Despite the challenges they faced, the couple’s growing family has been a source of joy and strength for them both.
Ed’s openness about his personal struggles has touched many, and fans continue to rally around him and his family, wishing them continued health and happiness.
