Kai Trump, the 18-year-old granddaughter of former President Donald Trump, has found herself at the center of an online controversy after posting a TikTok video filmed near military aircraft, sparking a debate over her perceived insensitivity amid global tensions.

The video, shared on her TikTok account (@thekaitrumpgolfer), showed Kai casually walking toward the camera on an airport runway, with military-style aircraft in the background. Dressed in a green top layered under a denim jacket, she filmed the video during sunset. While the moment seemed lighthearted at first, the presence of military helicopters in the background raised eyebrows, especially given the current political climate.
The clip quickly spread across social media, and viewers were quick to comment on the timing and context of the video. Some accused Kai of being insensitive for filming a selfie in front of military equipment, given that the United States is engaged in an ongoing conflict with Iran.

One user reposted the video with the caption: “Kai Trump posted a selfie video, but people quickly noticed what was happening behind her. Multiple U.S. military helicopters parked in the background. The clip is spreading online as viewers point out the timing. Her grandfather is the President of the United States, and the country is currently at war with Iran. Is taking selfies in front of war machines a bad look… or are people overreacting?”
The backlash was swift, with many calling out the young influencer’s actions as “tone deaf” and “entitled.” One critic wrote, “This is so entitled.” Another commenter added, “She’s a tone-deaf t—….. an entitled little b—–.” Further comments questioned her immunity from military service, with one user stating, “Too bad she’s immune from ever being drafted….” and another suggesting, “If you’re pro war. Go Join it.”

Kai’s video raised uncomfortable questions about the optics of her privileged position and whether it was appropriate to share such content amidst the heightened tensions surrounding the U.S.-Iran conflict.
Despite the harsh criticism, others defended her, arguing that the backlash might be an overreaction and that she should be allowed to share content like any other influencer. Nonetheless, the video has caused a stir, with many questioning whether it was an unfortunate misstep for the young Trump family member.
