In a historic move, President Donald Trump will become the first-ever U.S. president to have his signature featured on every single U.S. dollar bill. This groundbreaking change, set to take effect in the summer of 2026, is part of the redesigned currency to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Starting in June, the first $100 bills bearing Trump’s signature, alongside that of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, will be printed. Other denominations will follow in subsequent months. This shift marks the first time since 1861 that U.S. currency will drop the signature of the U.S. Treasurer, with Trump’s name replacing it.
At the same time, the Treasury will still be producing some notes bearing the signatures of former President Joe Biden’s Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and former Treasurer Lynn Malerba. However, Trump’s signature will dominate as part of the special anniversary release.

Treasury Secretary Bessent defended the decision, citing strong economic growth and financial stability during Trump’s second term. “There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S. dollar bills bearing his name,” Bessent said in a statement. “It is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the semiquincentennial.”
Treasurer Brandon Beach also praised the move, acknowledging Trump’s impact on the economy. “The president’s mark on history as the architect of America’s Golden Age economic revival is undeniable,” Beach said. “Printing his signature on the American currency is not only appropriate but also well-deserved.”

This change is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration and its allies to stamp Trump’s name on various institutions, government programs, and even U.S. currency. In addition to the redesigned dollar bills, a 24-karat commemorative gold coin bearing Trump’s image is also in the works for America’s 250th anniversary, though it still requires official approval from the Treasury.
While a previous attempt to circulate a $1 Trump coin was hindered by laws prohibiting living individuals from appearing on currency, this new initiative represents a significant shift in how the president’s legacy is being celebrated in U.S. government programs.
