Brittany Mahomes, wife of Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, has revealed a troubling wrist condition she’s been struggling with for over a year. Diagnosed with De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, more commonly known as “Mother’s Wrist,” Brittany shared the news with her followers after enduring significant pain for months, finally seeking medical help after it became unbearable.
The condition, which affects the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist, is often caused by repetitive motions like lifting children, a common struggle for many mothers. Brittany, 30, who has three children with Patrick—Sterling, 5, Bronze, 3, and Golden Raye, 1—explained that the pain had been bothering her for a while, but she hoped it would improve on its own.
“I’ve been battling it for probably around a year now thinking it will just get better,” Brittany wrote on social media. “Well, it never did and started to get pretty bad… so now,” she continued, adding that she now has to wear a wrist brace to manage the pain.
The wrist issue is a reminder of the toll motherhood can take on the body, particularly for new mothers who constantly lift and carry their children. According to the Mayo Clinic, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis is a painful condition that affects the tendons, causing discomfort and swelling in the wrist and thumb.
Brittany’s Struggles with Health After Motherhood
This isn’t the first health challenge Brittany Mahomes has faced since becoming a mother. After the birth of her second child, she revealed in 2024 that she had suffered from a broken back caused by pelvic issues—a condition that many new mothers experience. She took to Instagram to warn other women about the importance of pelvic health, sharing, “Once you have kids, please take care of your pelvic floor. Seriously. From: A girl with a fractured back.”
Despite these ongoing health concerns, Brittany has remained a visible presence in her family’s life and has quickly returned to action after the birth of each of her children. She was back at a Chiefs game just days after the arrival of her third child, Golden Raye, in January 2025, showing her resilience and dedication to both her family and her public life.
Patrick Mahomes’ Recovery and the Family’s Journey
While Brittany deals with her wrist injury, her husband Patrick is also facing a challenging recovery of his own. The star quarterback, who tore his ACL in December 2025, has been working hard to recover in time for the 2026 NFL season. Despite the injury, Patrick is reportedly ahead of schedule and should be ready to return to the field for the season opener in September.
The Chiefs are optimistic about his progress, with NFL reporter James Palmer of Bleacher Report stating that Patrick’s recovery is progressing well and he is expected to be ready for Week 1. The team’s offseason moves, including high-profile free-agent signings and the drafting of key players like cornerback Mansoor Delane and defensive tackle Peter Woods, show their commitment to bouncing back after missing the playoffs last season.
As the Mahomes family faces these personal health battles, it’s clear that their resilience and dedication to both their family and careers will continue to guide them through. Brittany’s struggles with her wrist and previous back issues reflect the physical toll of motherhood, but she remains a strong figure, supporting her family and participating in her own personal recovery. With Patrick’s return to health and the Chiefs’ revamped roster, both Brittany and Patrick will be navigating their challenges together, while also balancing their family life and their prominent careers.
