Brittany Mahomes has proudly celebrated a major announcement from the Kansas City Current — just as husband Patrick Mahomes continues his highly watched return to the practice field with the Chiefs.
The Kansas City Current co-owner reshared the club’s exciting new community initiative on Instagram after the team confirmed the launch of a no-cost youth soccer league in Kansas City.
For Brittany, a former professional soccer player and one of the most visible figures behind the Current’s rise, the announcement was clearly personal. 💙
The new league, called the 9th & Van Brunt Soccer League, will serve children between the ages of eight and ten in Kansas City’s historic Northeast neighborhood. It is expected to welcome around 120 young players this summer and will officially kick off on July 11.
The project is designed to remove financial barriers for families while giving young athletes access to organised sport, coaching and community support.
Brittany showed her approval by liking the announcement on Instagram and proudly sharing it to her Stories. Patrick Mahomes’ mother, Randi Mahomes, also reacted warmly, commenting: “So amazing.”
The announcement comes during a busy moment for the Mahomes family.
Patrick, the Chiefs’ superstar quarterback, has been at the centre of attention during organised team activities after suffering a serious ACL injury last December. Kansas City recently shared footage of him scrambling and throwing while wearing a brace on his leg, giving fans a hopeful first look at his recovery.
While the team’s early voluntary practice was closed to the media, even seeing Mahomes back on the field in any capacity was enough to spark excitement.
The three-time Super Bowl MVP is said to be determined to return in time for Week 1, and every glimpse of him moving, throwing and testing the knee is being closely analysed by Chiefs fans. 🏈
But away from the football field, Brittany and Patrick are continuing to build something powerful in Kansas City through the Current.
Before OTAs began, the couple took their children — Sterling, Bronze and Golden — to CPKC Stadium to watch the Current defeat the Portland Thorns 3-1. The family showed their support in matching teal Current shirts, turning the match into a sweet family moment as well as a public show of backing for the club.
The Current have endured a difficult start to the season, but with the return of two-time NWSL MVP Temwa Chawinga, the team now sits sixth with an 11-6 record.
Still, the latest announcement proves the club’s mission is about more than results on the pitch.
Kansas City Current president Raven Jemison described the new youth league as a perfect reflection of the club’s community values. She said the project could have a generational impact on young athletes, families and coaches across the city.
That message fits closely with Brittany’s public role since becoming one of the leading faces of the Current.
She has repeatedly spoken about the importance of women’s sports, access, opportunity and investment. Alongside Patrick and fellow owners Chris and Angie Long, Brittany has helped position the Current as one of the most valuable franchises in the NWSL.
The team is now reportedly worth $375 million, making it the second-most valuable club in the league.
That rise has been helped by the opening of CPKC Stadium, a landmark venue built specifically for a women’s professional sports team. For Brittany, the stadium has become more than just a home ground — it is a symbol of what can happen when women’s sport is taken seriously. ✨
Earlier this month, she was recognised by United WE, a national women’s leadership organisation, with its first-ever Champion for Change Award.
Brittany accepted the honour at CPKC Stadium and later shared an emotional message on Instagram, saying it was an honour to receive the award in a stadium that represents what it looks like when women’s needs are prioritised in sports and in the workplace.
“No better place to celebrate women than a stadium built for women,” she wrote.
Patrick was quick to celebrate his wife publicly, commenting: “Congrats babe! You deserve it! Love you!” He also shared her post to his own Instagram Stories with a proud “CONGRATS!!”
The recognition highlighted Brittany’s work not only with the Current, but also through the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, which she and Patrick have used to support children’s health, wellness and opportunity in underserved communities.
Now, the new youth soccer league adds another layer to that mission.
For young children in Kansas City, the 9th & Van Brunt Soccer League could become their first real step into organised sport. For families, it offers an opportunity without the burden of cost. And for the Current, it strengthens the bond between the club and the community around CPKC Stadium.
For Brittany, it is another reminder that her influence in Kansas City extends far beyond being the wife of an NFL superstar.
She is a businesswoman, team owner, former athlete, mother of three and increasingly one of the most important voices in the city’s women’s sports movement.
And as Patrick works toward his football comeback, Brittany is celebrating a different kind of win — one built around access, opportunity and the next generation.
The Chiefs may have all eyes on Mahomes’ knee.
But across town, Brittany Mahomes and the Kansas City Current are making moves that could change young lives. ⚽💙
