Beverley Callard, the beloved Coronation Street star and I’m A Celebrity contestant, has shared an emotional health update with her fans after undergoing surgery for breast cancer. The 69-year-old actress, who announced her diagnosis in February 2026, revealed that while the surgery successfully removed the cancer, it had unfortunately spread to one of her lymph nodes.
In a video posted to her Instagram on Thursday, Beverley gave fans a candid update following an agonizing two-month wait for the results. She explained that while the cancer was successfully excised, the involvement of the lymph nodes has added another layer of complexity to her journey. Beverley explained, “They’re pleased with how the surgery went, and they also took three lymph nodes. Cancer is in the first lymph node, but not the second or third. So, it’s there, but it’s only small.”
She went on to describe her consultant’s analogy of lymph nodes being like a staircase, where cancer can “climb up the stairs” if it reaches these vital components of the immune system. “They took three, and cancer is in the first lymph node. It’s not in the second, two, and three,” she explained.
What’s Next for Beverley 💭
Beverley revealed that the affected lymph node would be sent to America for further testing to determine the aggressiveness of the cancer. The actress is waiting for these results, which will determine whether she will need chemotherapy before beginning radiotherapy. If the cancer is deemed less aggressive, she will proceed directly with radiotherapy as planned.
Though the surgery’s success provided some relief, Beverley admitted feeling bittersweet about the outcome, acknowledging that the involvement of the lymph nodes is still a concern. “In one way, it was kind of good news that the surgery worked well, but because it’s in the lymph nodes, it’s still a worry,” she said. “And still a waiting time, which is an absolute pain.”
Beverley continued, empathizing with others facing similar challenges: “But there we go, and I’m sure loads of you have been through the same thing. So that’s the state of play.”
A Long and Emotional Journey 🛤
Earlier this month, Beverley had expressed frustration when her surgery results were delayed due to a backlog. At the time, she admitted that she “cannot paint a smile on her face” as she was still waiting for the crucial test results.
The actress, who relocated to Dublin for a new job on the Irish soap Fair City, was diagnosed shortly after her move. Her battle with cancer has been particularly difficult as she had to juggle her treatment with her public appearances, including filming for I’m A Celebrity South Africa.
I’m A Celebrity Appearance 🎥
In a somewhat unusual turn, Beverley continued to participate in the I’m A Celebrity South Africa spin-off while undergoing her cancer treatments. The series was mostly filmed in September 2025, with a live final scheduled later this month. This led to confusion among some fans, as they saw Beverley on the show before fully understanding that the series had been pre-recorded.
One concerned viewer took to social media, writing: “When was this recorded? I thought Beverley was going through cancer treatment and was ill?” This sparked a wave of support from her fans, many of whom have been following her journey and sending their well wishes as she navigates both her cancer battle and her public commitments.
The Road Ahead 🏥
While the uncertainty remains, Beverley’s resilience and openness about her health journey continue to inspire her supporters. She has been forthright about her experience, sharing her ups and downs with her fans, and acknowledging how challenging this period has been.
As she awaits further tests, Beverley’s fans are rallying around her, hoping for the best possible outcome.
