Anthony Head, the beloved British actor known to millions as Giles in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, passed away peacefully at the age of 72 due to complications from pneumonia. His death, surrounded by his loving family, marks the end of a life devoted not only to an extraordinary career in film, television, and theatre but also to a family he cherished deeply.

For more than 40 years, Anthony shared his life with Sarah Fisher, animal welfare advocate and author, who tragically passed away just six months ago at the age of 61. The couple met in 1983 backstage at London’s National Theatre, and from that moment, their connection was electric. Anthony recalled their first encounter during a production of Danton’s Death: “I got there earlier and earlier in the hope I’d see her again… eventually, we’d sit and chat before I’d have to go on for the beheading.” Their love flourished, though they never married, and together they raised two daughters, Emily (37) and Daisy (35), both of whom have followed in their father’s footsteps to become successful actresses.

Anthony’s dedication to family was unwavering. Even while building his career in Los Angeles on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, he made the conscious decision to return to the UK during season six to be closer to his loved ones. “It’s always been a family decision as to how long I’d be out there,” he explained, highlighting that his greatest priorities were always Emily, Daisy, and Sarah.
His daughters have carried forward his legacy in the entertainment world. Emily starred in The Inbetweeners, Emmerdale, and The Syndicate, while Daisy appeared in The Syndicate, Guilt, Harlots, Shadow and Bone, The Gray House, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Anthony even shared the screen with them, portraying Daisy’s stepfather in Guilt and Emily’s father in The Invisibles.
Anthony’s career spanned more than five decades and over 100 projects, including acclaimed roles in Ted Lasso, The Iron Lady, Persuasion, and Manchild. From his early days on the West End as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show to his iconic role as Giles, and even memorable appearances in Nescafé Gold Blend adverts, Anthony’s talent, charm, and versatility made him a household name.

His daughters issued a heartfelt statement: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father… It has been, and forever will be, an honor and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many… We know how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues, and fans.”
