Joe Lycett Shares Rare Glimpse into Fatherhood After Emergency Hospital Visit with Son
Comedian Joe Lycett, known for his quick wit and keeping his personal life out of the limelight, has opened up about a rare and emotional experience as a parent. In an intimate conversation on Katherine Ryan’s What’s My Age Again podcast, Lycett shared details about rushing his 16-month-old son to the hospital, providing fans with a rare glimpse into his life as a father.

While refusing to disclose his son’s name, Lycett jokingly referred to the toddler as “the punisher.” He recalled the harrowing incident, saying, “The little one got sick recently, and we had to rush him to the hospital. It was a lot more than we expected.”
Describing the overwhelming feeling of parenthood, Lycett added, “I felt like I would take on all of his pain a thousand times over. I’d tear down any wall to save him. I’d do whatever it takes.”
The situation was a dramatic turn for the comedian, who confessed that the experience of seeing his son unwell was emotionally exhausting. Lycett shared the details of the visit to Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s emergency room, including a comical, yet stressful moment when he struggled with parking: “So, there I was, with ‘the punisher’ in the car, getting him checked out while also trying to juggle parking. Naturally, I got fined.”
Amidst the chaos, Lycett found a brief moment to reflect on his decision to become a father. “I used to say I didn’t think I’d have kids, but once I was in a stable, loving relationship, it just felt like the right time to try. And once we started talking about it, it became inevitable.”
Lycett also shared his thoughts on keeping his family life private. Despite the public nature of his career, he emphasized the importance of protecting his son from the scrutiny of fame. “If people knew I was dating her, it could affect her work. And she doesn’t want to be involved in this crazy world we’re in—what we do is already strange enough,” he said, referring to Denise’s profession, which involves helping vulnerable individuals.
The comedian’s words served as a reminder of the complexities of balancing public life with private responsibility, and while he continues to keep his family out of the spotlight, it’s clear that his love for his son is his top priority.
