Natalie Cassidy Opens Up About the Impact of Losing Her Mother at a Young Age

April 12, 2026 – Former EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy has spoken candidly about the profound impact of losing her mother at just 19 years old.

Appearing on Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, Cassidy reflected on the devastating loss of her mother, Evelyn, who passed away from bowel cancer in 2002. At the time, Cassidy was only 19, and her mother was 63 years old.

“I lost my mum at 19. She was 63, she was young,” Cassidy shared during the interview.

Cassidy revealed that her parents had her later in life, with her mother and father being 44 and 46 respectively when she was born. She added that family has always held great significance for her, saying, “Family is so important to me.”

Her two older brothers were already teenagers when Cassidy was born, and she became an aunt at just three years old. Despite the early loss of her mother, Cassidy reflected on the unexpected blessings that came from her family’s unique circumstances.

“I suppose I did lose mum, but what I gained was sisters-in-law and nieces, which are like my sisters because I was an aunty at 3, so it all worked out in the end,” she said.

In a previous interview on Life with Nat, Cassidy also opened up about the guilt she carried for years following her mother’s death. As a teenager, her focus was not on her mother, and she admitted, “When you’re a late teenager, you’re not really thinking about your mum unfortunately.”

Natalie Cassidy’s candid reflections provide a powerful look into the emotional struggles of losing a loved one at a young age and the complex dynamics of family relationships.
