Kemi Badenoch Calls for Decisive Action in the “Age of Donald Trump” to Strengthen UK Defence

Kemi Badenoch, Leader of the Conservative Party, has called for Britain to take a more decisive stance in the “age of Donald Trump,” stressing the importance of demonstrating a willingness to “get our hands dirty” when it comes to defending national interests.

Speaking at the London Defence Conference, Badenoch acknowledged the shift in global power dynamics under Trump’s leadership, stating, “For decades, the United States has been complaining that Europe is not pulling its weight on defence. We cannot properly defend ourselves without the United States.”

While acknowledging that many find Trump’s rhetoric and actions provocative, Badenoch emphasized the need for Britain to act firmly and decisively in protecting its own interests. She highlighted that Britain must show both allies and adversaries that it is prepared to take meaningful action, not just follow American directives.

Reflecting on her own party’s past mistakes, Badenoch admitted that the Conservative Party had not done enough early on to strengthen the country’s military readiness in response to an increasingly dangerous world. However, she assured the audience that under new management, her leadership would not repeat those mistakes.

In a direct message to Labour, Badenoch urged the party to learn from past failures and prioritise investment in defence over other budget areas, such as welfare.

Badenoch’s comments underline the growing importance of defence in UK political discourse, with the country facing new security challenges in an unpredictable global environment.
