“I had a routine mammogram just before Christmas. I had no symptoms, but the radiographer noticed something unusual,” Fallon explained, adding that further tests and a biopsy later confirmed the diagnosis.

Fallon reassured followers that the cancer was detected at a very early stage and that doctors are optimistic about her prognosis. She said she is currently preparing for surgery and is receiving excellent medical care.

“I’m getting incredible care and just want to get the surgery over with now,” she said.

The author also shared how she is coping during the process, focusing on small comforts such as listening to audiobooks and completing jigsaw puzzles to help keep her mind calm.

Fallon, who has written more than a dozen novels, including Getting Rid of Matthew, has received an outpouring of support from readers and friends following her announcement.

She also used the moment to highlight the importance of routine health screenings, noting that the cancer was discovered during a standard check-up rather than through symptoms. Health experts say early detection through regular mammograms significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.

Throughout the difficult period, Fallon has credited Gervais with being a constant source of support. The couple, who have been together for decades, are known for keeping their personal lives relatively private while occasionally sharing glimpses of their relationship with fans.

Her announcement has prompted many supporters to praise her honesty and bravery in speaking openly about her diagnosis while encouraging others to prioritise regular health checks.
