Keir Starmer Mocked by Vladimir Putin as Russian Warship Defies PM’s Promise to Seize Vessels
Keir Starmer‘s tough stance on seizing sanctioned Russian tankers was directly challenged today as Vladimir Putin sent a warship to escort two vessels through the English Channel. The Admiral Grigorovich, a Black Sea fleet frigate, was spotted guiding the sanctioned tankers, Universal and Enigma, past British waters, marking a defiant move from Moscow.
Despite Starmer’s recent announcement granting special forces the authority to capture Russian ships under sanctions, the UK has yet to act on a single vessel. The defiance comes after the UK Prime Minister pledged to clamp down on Russia’s “shadow fleet” and to defend Britain’s sovereignty.
The warship’s passage further embarrassed Starmer, with critics accusing him of failing to follow through on his promises regarding Russia’s maritime operations. Experts are calling for more decisive action to prevent Russia from circumventing sanctions and funding its war machine.
As tensions rise, the UK’s response continues to be under scrutiny, with many questioning whether the government’s tough rhetoric will translate into effective action against Russian assets in British waters.
