Janet Street-Porter Surprises Fans with Secret Wedding: “Fifth Time’s the Charm!”
Janet Street-Porter, star of Loose Women, has shocked fans by revealing she secretly married her long-term partner, Peter Spanton, making this her fifth marriage. The 79-year-old presenter shared the exciting news during a heartwarming video message on Monday’s show, leaving both her co-panellists and viewers surprised and delighted.
The couple, who have been together since 1999, chose an intimate ceremony in Great Yarmouth last Saturday. They were joined by their beloved dog, Badger, in the celebration, which was shared with viewers during the show.
In the video, Janet excitedly told the Loose Women audience: “Hi everyone, I’ve been keeping a big secret. It’s my big news for everyone. Peter and me, and Badger, got married on Saturday, so there you are. I finally did it,” adding with a smile, “I saved the best till last.”
Her announcement sparked emotional reactions from her co-stars, with Brenda Edwards particularly moved by the news, exclaiming, “Congratulations, Janet! That’s got me quite emotional. I love that.” Kaye Adams humorously pointed out that this was Janet’s “fifth husband,” to which Brenda responded, “It doesn’t matter, she’s got happiness, stop counting the numbers.”
Fans flooded social media with congratulatory messages, with many celebrities offering their well wishes. Fellow Loose Women panellist Coleen Nolan wrote, “OMG I’m so happy for you both. Janet’s previous marriages span several decades, beginning with photographer Tim Street-Porter in the late 1960s. She has also been married to Time Out editor Tony Elliott, filmmaker Frank Cvitanovich, and David Sorkin, whom she married in 1997 before divorcing in 1999. Peter Spanton, her current husband, has been by her side since 1999, and the couple now makes their bond official after over two decades together.
Currently, Janet is touring the UK with her one-woman show Off The Leash, with upcoming performances in Blackfriars, Southampton, and Hampshire.
