Maureen Lipman Finds Love Again at 79 with David Turner: A Story of Unexpected Happiness in Their Twilight Years
At 79, Coronation Street star Maureen Lipman has found love once again with 80-year-old businessman David Turner, six months after their wedding. The couple, who tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at David’s son’s London home in September 2023, have opened up about the joy and surprise of finding each other in their late seventies.
The couple met in 2023, and just a year later, Maureen spontaneously proposed to David, 20 years after the death of her first husband, and three years after David’s wife passed away. Reflecting on their whirlwind romance, Maureen shared with The Sunday Times that despite only being together for just over a year before their engagement, it felt like they had known each other their entire lives.
Maureen gushed, saying, “I wanted to be with him 24/7.” When she moved into David’s home, she described it as feeling like she was “coming home.” Despite their age, she expressed how rare and precious their bond is, saying, “I wish anyone at my age could find this level of happiness.”
David, who had spent years caring for his late wife Frances as she battled Alzheimer’s, explained that his experience of loss had made him hesitant to seek love again. However, after spending more time with Maureen, he realized that he wanted to care for her, too. Reflecting on the fleeting nature of time, David said, “We might have one year together, five years, or 20 years—so let’s make them the happiest they can be.”
Despite their happiness, Maureen admitted feeling apprehensive about their upcoming time apart as she embarks on a UK tour for her new show Allegra from May to July. She confessed, “I’ve found someone to look after and someone who wants to look after me. What we have is rare, and I hope I don’t mess it up.”
Their love story has been a heartwarming surprise, with Maureen describing it as a “gift” and expressing her joy at having found someone special after years of loss. She had been previously married to TV scriptwriter Jack Rosenthal for 30 years until his death in 2004, and later dated Italian businessman Guido Castro for 13 years before his death in 2021.
Maureen and David’s journey has been filled with cherished moments, and they continue to enjoy their time together, making plans for their future while reflecting on the preciousness of life’s fleeting moments.
