Natasha Hamilton, 43, has shared a candid and emotional update on her battle with early perimenopause and the chronic health conditions she’s faced, admitting that it has left her feeling “insecure and embarrassed.” The former Atomic Kitten singer, who found fame at just 16, revealed that after giving birth to her second son, she struggled with postnatal depression and began noticing changes in her health, leading to her current struggles with perimenopause.

A Difficult Health Journey 🩺

Natasha Hamilton, 43, has confessed that going into early perimenopause and being diagnosed with a health condition has left her feeling 'insecure and embarrassed'

Speaking to The Mirror, Natasha opened up about the challenges she faced just a year ago. “I felt like I was falling apart and had lost all confidence in myself,” she admitted, describing her experience with perimenopause and the accompanying thyroid issues. Natasha, who was later diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, explained that her thyroid was underactive, causing severe disruptions to her metabolism, energy levels, and mood.

Her diagnosis came after a tumultuous period when she felt that “nothing was working” and couldn’t even recognize herself. “In the early months after Kitty’s birth, I could barely get out of bed, and I felt agony in my body. I was constantly in pain,” she shared. Natasha also described how she began struggling with memory recall and slow speech, which was incredibly frustrating.

Turning to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) 🌸

Natasha is married to Charles Gay, and shares a daughter, Kitty, two, and has children from previous relationships, Josh, 23, Harry, 21, Alfie, 15, and Ella, 11.

The moment Natasha began HRT, things started to improve, but it was a long, difficult journey. She revealed that her lowest point came six months after Kitty’s birth when she was shooting a music video and feeling “bigger than she had ever been.” Despite the challenges, she told herself, “Step into your power. You were a young, thin pop star, but that’s not you now. You’ve just had your fifth child, you’ve been through life, and you look great. So what if you have cellulite?”

And she revealed to the Mirror that just 12 months ago, she felt she was 'falling apart' as she battled with perimenopause and only started to turn around when she started HRT

In addition to her health challenges, Natasha has been open about her financial struggles. She revealed that she faced a £250,000 tax bill after leaving Atomic Kitten and had to deal with the stress of paying off significant debts accumulated in her early twenties when credit cards were “thrown” at her. “I owed about £20,000 at one point,” she confessed, noting how these experiences taught her valuable lessons about money management.

Natasha shared that after her divorce from her first husband, Riad Erraji, in 2013, she was left with “nothing” and had to work hard to rebuild her financial stability. She recalled a particularly tough period in her life when she and her family were homeless for seven months after a housing deal fell through. Despite the setbacks, she now maintains her finances with greater care, paying off her credit card balances each month.

Now, living in Chester with her husband, Charles Gay, and their daughter, Kitty, Natasha feels empowered to continue her journey of healing and growth. “I’m still on this journey, and it’s one I’m learning to embrace with grace,” she said.
