Former Blue Peter presenter Anthea Turner has shared a candid update on her recovery after suffering a significant injury that has left her in pain and wearing a sling for three weeks. The 65-year-old revealed that she tore the tendons between her shoulder muscle and bone back in December when she slipped on her pajama bottoms while running downstairs.
Anthea, who has been recovering at home, described the injury as a “nightmare” and shared the painful reality of her recovery process. She had to undergo surgery at The Wellington Hospital in London after initially thinking she was dealing with bursitis. Following the procedure, Anthea expressed her relief that her rotator cuff tear was now mended, but the recovery has been tough.
Taking to social media, she wrote: “Well, I’ve had better weekends, but the good news is the Rotator Cuff Tear that we thought was Bursitis is now all mended. But oh, the pain! Now home with a ‘Party Bag’ of killer drugs.”
She humorously shared the challenges of adapting to life with one arm, saying, “Now finding out how difficult it is using just my left hand. Socks are a nightmare, and I can’t even tie my hair up because you really need two hands for that one.”
Despite the pain, Anthea remains upbeat, joking about her current appearance with the sling and struggling to style her hair. She credited her fiancé, businessman Mark Armstrong, for helping her through the tough times. “Mark is doing a great job, but friends are feeling far more sorry for him than me. I’m a terrible patient,” she shared.
Her fiancé Mark, who she got engaged to in 2019 after a whirlwind romance, has been by her side as she recovers. In a heartfelt post, Anthea also expressed her gratitude for the care she received from her doctor and friends who have supported her during her healing journey.
In a recent interview, Anthea reflected on her previous marriages and shared why she and Mark have yet to marry. She revealed that her preferences for a smaller, more intimate ceremony come after her extravagant wedding to property developer Grant Bovey in 2000, which sparked a public backlash due to its excessive nature.
As she recovers, Anthea continues to focus on the positives in her life, including her second chance at love with Mark. “I’m a woman who got a second chance at love and family life, and I’m loving it,” she shared.
