Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes’ much-anticipated Kansas City steakhouse, 1587 Prime, has found itself in the midst of growing controversy after a recent damning review from TikTok user Nicole Rose. The restaurant, which opened in September 2025, was initially met with excitement and a surge in popularity, thanks to high-profile visits from Kelce, Mahomes, and even Kelce’s fiancée, Taylor Swift. However, recent feedback has painted a less-than-flattering picture of the dining experience at 1587, leaving some fans and patrons disappointed.
In a TikTok video shared last week, Nicole Rose didn’t hold back her criticism of what she described as “the worst fine-dining experience” of her life. She revealed that her $650 meal was marred by multiple delays, poor service, and subpar food quality. Rose’s review was quick to go viral, adding to the growing list of negative reports about the restaurant.
Unacceptable Wait Times and Mistakes
Rose recounted her night at the restaurant, beginning with a 45-minute wait for a martini, which was later served incorrectly. “It took us 45 minutes to get a martini. Our server got us the wrong drink, and then by the time they checked on us, it was 20 minutes after that,” she said. For a fine-dining experience with premium prices, such delays and lack of communication were simply unacceptable in Rose’s eyes.
To make matters worse, she described how she had no idea what to expect from the service, such as the arrival of a bar cart, which she felt should have been clearly communicated. When the drinks finally arrived, her food followed, but the fried chicken came before her martini and fell short of expectations. “It was not good, it was not worth the $25,” Rose commented.
Food Disappointments and Service Failures
The issues didn’t end with drinks. Rose ordered a $100 steak, but unfortunately, it was cooked incorrectly. “My $100 steak was incorrectly cooked. Couldn’t tell the server, you couldn’t even find the server to save your life,” she lamented. By the time she finally got the steak sauce she had ordered for an extra $15, her friend had almost finished her steak. The lack of attention to detail, in terms of both food preparation and service, left Rose feeling frustrated, especially considering the steep prices she was paying for the experience.
Adding insult to injury, the service was reportedly so poor that Rose had to endure an uncomfortable meal without any assistance from the waitstaff. “The fastest thing our server did was collect the bill. Our $650 bill,” Rose remarked. Despite the frustrations, she did find a silver lining in the mashed potatoes and broccoli, along with the accompanying bread roll, but the overall experience failed to live up to expectations.
Personal Disappointment Amid a Special Occasion
What made the experience even more disappointing for Rose was the personal significance of the meal. She explained that her friends, one of whom was visiting from Denver and the other leaving for military service, were eager to enjoy a special evening together. Instead, their time at 1587 Prime was marked by frustration and disappointment.
“I was looking forward to making memories with my friends, especially with one leaving for six months in the army,” Rose said. “But instead, I got a lackluster experience at a restaurant I had high hopes for.”
A History of Criticism for 1587 Prime
Rose’s review is just the latest in a string of negative feedback for 1587 Prime. Last year, renowned restaurant critic Liz Cook gave a scathing review of the restaurant, calling it a “parched vision of luxury.” Cook criticized the establishment for its high prices and lack of originality, stating that it presented customers with “a child-like idea of luxury” and relied on “lazy local outsourcing” for its operations.
Cook’s review reflected the frustration many had with the restaurant’s failure to meet the lofty expectations set by its high-profile owners. She noted that despite the premium prices, the experience did not justify the cost, and the restaurant’s offerings felt mediocre at best.
A Tough Road Ahead for 1587 Prime
As more negative reviews pile up, 1587 Prime may face an uphill battle to restore its reputation. While it initially garnered attention thanks to the fame of its owners, Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, the restaurant has yet to prove it can consistently deliver the level of service and quality that diners expect from a fine-dining establishment.
In a competitive market, where Kansas City boasts a thriving food scene, the pressure will be on the restaurant to improve its operations. The Chiefs’ stars will need to ensure that 1587 Prime lives up to the hype, or risk losing loyal customers and damaging their brand further.
For now, the future of 1587 Prime remains uncertain, with patrons hoping that the restaurant will address its service issues and elevate its dining experience. Fans of Kelce and Mahomes will be watching closely to see if the stars can turn around their restaurant’s fortunes, or if it will continue to struggle under the weight of its high expectations.
